Your watch recognises your swings and tells a struck ball apart from a practice swing. It uses this in At my ball rounds, at the range and during your exercises. This feature is in beta: it's only open to beta testers, and your feedback helps us improve it.
What you need
An Apple Watch paired with your iPhone, with the Teech app installed. In Profile âș My watch, Use my watch must be on, and Watch paired and Teech app installed ticked.
The first time, allow Health and Motion & Fitness on your watch: without them, the sensors don't run.
Your watch on your lead wrist (the left one for a right-handed player), snugly fitted. Check that your watch knows which wrist it's on: Settings app on the watch âș General âș Orientation.
Turn on detection
Go to Profile âș My watch, Shot detection section. If you're a beta tester, it's already on.
The first time you use detection (round, range session or exercise), Teech asks Do you play right- or left-handed? You can change your answer later in I play.
During a round, detection only works in At my ball mode and is set when you start the round, in Round options. In Simple mode, it stays off.
During a round
Every time you strike a ball, your watch vibrates and plays two notes. A Shot detected (or Putt detected) banner shows for a few seconds.
Practice swings are ignored: no vibration, no sound, nothing on screen.
Your watch then follows your shot to your ball and asks you for the club. It's all explained in the article âAt my ball with watch shot detection (beta)â.
Range session with your watch
On your iPhone, tap Play, then Practice with my watch.
Tap Start on my watch: the session opens on your watch. If nothing happens, open the Teech app on your watch.
Hit your balls. Your watch vibrates on every swing it recognises, and your iPhone shows your tempo, wrist speed and the impact of each swing live.
Set your club (Club on the watch, Club in hand on the iPhone) to compare your clubs. With the putter or a wedge, the watch adapts detection to putting or the short game.
Did the watch get it wrong? Fix the last swing with Ball or No ball on the watch, or from the Swings list on your iPhone (Practice swing, Ball struck, Delete).
Tap End the session, then Send my data to help us improve detection.
On the watch, scroll down to see the list of your swings and the session Summary.
Settings
In Profile âș My watch, Shot detection section:
I play: right- or left-handed.
Vibrate on every shot: the vibration each time you strike a ball during a round. At the range, the watch always vibrates.
Sound on detection: two notes when the ball is struck, and a âtingâ for a practice swing at the range. You'll also find it when you start an At my ball round.
Share my swings (on by default): your wrist motion during each swing is sent to Teech to train detection, along with the detection log. Nothing other than these measurements. It's sent automatically when no round or range session is in progress, with an internet connection and outside Low Power Mode.
For reliable detection
Wear your watch snugly, on your lead wrist.
Pause for a moment at address before you swing: that's how the watch recognises a real swing.
If your watch shows Allow Health, tap it: without the Health workout, detection doesn't start.
At the range, fix mistakes with Ball or No ball: every correction helps us.
Keep Share my swings on during the beta.
Report a problem
Note the hole, the time and what happened (missed shot, practice swing counted, wrong club suggestedâŠ).
Write to us from Profile âș Contact our team.
With Share my swings on, your swings and the detection log reach us automatically after your round: we can see what your watch saw.
