When drawing your safe zones (geofences) there are multiple tools to help ensure it is accurate to the information in your safe work pack. The ruler tool on the Dashboard allows you to draw to cm accuracy in a safe working area.

The ruler tool is also available on the Live map tab, and the map overview so you can precisely measure distances on each view.

For example: use the ruler tool to measure 2m away from an open line or measure how far away a marker board is from its planned location.

What can I use the ruler tool for?

There are multiple ways to use the ruler tool:

  • Measure the distance away from an open line for safe working limits

  • Check the size/length of the safe working area

  • To easily 'snap' around a curved safe zone for the accuracy of your geofence

  • Measure distances between key features of the site/infrastructure

  • Check if protective equipment is placed accurately in line with the regulations

  • Project reviewers can check safe working distances have been planned correctly

How to use the ruler tool to draw accurate safe zones

πŸ’‘ Tended tip: press the "R" key on your keyboard when you're on the site planning page, and this will quickly enable the ruler tool

  1. Log in to the Tended Dashboard.

  2. Navigate to the project you would like to add a safe zone to or create a project.

  3. Open a pre-existing site or create one.

  4. Click on the 'Ruler' icon from the left-hand side. This is third from the bottom and looks like a small ruler.

  5. Click on the point you want to measure on the map, and click again when the ruler is at your desired distance and angle.

  6. Repeat as many times as you need to ensure your entire safe area can be drawn in the correct distance away from an area of danger.

πŸ’‘ Tended Tip: We recommend you do this at regular intervals along a track edge, to ensure the best accuracy and to help follow a curved track. You can then 'snap' your safe zone to these lines for quick safe zone creation.
