For necessary background, please preread Stock Statuses & Critical Review Explained before proceeding with this article.

Purpose

Muting an item hides it from the Top 5 exception lists on the Dashboard. This is useful for temporarily removing an item that you have already reviewed or cannot take action on, allowing other items that need attention to become visible.

For example, an item may appear in the Surplus Orders Top 5 list because additional stock was ordered to qualify for a supplier price break. The lower unit cost justified purchasing surplus inventory. In another case, extra stock was ordered in advance of a planned supplier shutdown. In both scenarios, the surplus is intentional and already reviewed, so muting the item allows planners to focus on unplanned exceptions that require action.

Step 1: Mute an Item

  1. Navigate to the Dashboard.

  2. Locate the item you wish to mute in one of the Top 5 exception lists (for example, Excess stock or Stocked out).

  3. Hover your cursor over the bar next to the item's description.

  4. Click the Mute button that appears.

The item will be hidden from the Dashboard’s Top 5 list for the duration of its lead time, allowing other items to appear in its place.

Step 2: Unmute an Item

If you need to unmute an item before its mute period expires, you must do so from its Inquiry screen.

  1. Open the Inquiry screen for the muted item.

  2. Locate the Status Panel.

  3. Click the Muted button to unmute the item.

Once unmuted, the item will immediately reappear in the Dashboard Top 5 list if it still qualifies based on its data.

⚠️ Watchouts

  • Scope of muting: Muting only hides the item from the Top 5 Dashboard lists. It does not exclude the item from KPI calculations or from other reports in the app.

  • Panel limits: Items can only be muted from the Top 5 list on the Dashboard, not from the Top 5 list on the Forecast exceeds sales or Sales exceeds forecast panels.

💡 Tips

  • Strategic decluttering: Use muting to manage workload and visibility, not to mask recurring issues.
