For necessary background, please preread Supplier Lead Time Explained before proceeding with this article.
Purpose
This article explains how to interpret the Measured Lead Time tab on an item’s Inquiry screen. It shows how the app calculates and displays measured lead times, what the colored dots represent, how exclusions are applied, and when the measured lead time becomes the active Planning Lead Time for an item.
Step 1: Navigate to the Measured Lead Time Tab
Go to Inquiry and open the item you wish to review.
Select the Measured LT tab.
The chart displays all historical deliveries for that item from its preferred supplier.
Step 2: Understand the Chart
The graph visualizes how long deliveries actually took, compared with the configured Planning Lead Time.
Each dot represents one historical delivery.
Green dots are deliveries included in the measured lead time calculation.
Gray dots are excluded deliveries.
Hover over a gray dot to see the exclusion reason.
Common exclusion reasons include:
The delivery was not from the preferred supplier.
The delivery was part of a blanket order.
The lead time fell outside three standard deviations of the average.
A shaded gray band behind the chart shows the upper and lower limits of the accepted range.
Step 3: Review the Tabular View
Click the Table button above the chart to see detailed delivery records.
Each row lists order and receipt dates, the supplier, and whether that delivery was included in the calculation.
Use this view to verify that excluded deliveries are legitimate outliers and not data errors.
Step 4: Interpret the Measured and Planning Lead Times
The Measured Lead Time (M-LT) is the average of all included deliveries that meet the criteria for inclusion.
The Planning Lead Time (P-LT) is the value the app uses for replenishment calculations.
When configuration is set to Measured by Historical Deliveries, the M-LT automatically becomes the P-LT for that item.
When configuration uses imported or supplier-set values, the M-LT is displayed for comparison but does not replace the P-LT.
Measured lead time requires at least three valid deliveries for an item at a location from the preferred supplier to be applied automatically. If fewer than three valid deliveries exist, the app continues to use the imported or default Planning Lead Time.
Measured vs Average Lead Time Explained
⚠️ Watchouts
Preferred supplier dependency: Measured Lead Time is calculated only from the preferred supplier for each item and location. Deliveries from other suppliers are excluded.
Minimum data requirement: If fewer than three valid deliveries exist, measured lead time will not be used for planning. The app will default to imported or manually set values.
💡 Tips
Hover for insight: Use hover tooltips on gray dots to understand why deliveries were excluded. This helps identify recurring issues such as late receipts or incorrect supplier assignments.
Use tabular data for audits: The table view can help confirm supplier performance or support discussions with vendors about delivery reliability.
