Introduction

TetherX will automatically switch to "Local Streaming" where possible. For example, live view will keep functioning even if the Internet is down on site.

The requirements for local streaming are:

  1. You are on the same network as the TetherBox

  2. Your TetherBox is switched on and able to communicate with the local network

Similarly, if you are playing back recordings, they will also be streamed locally where possible, without using the Internet connection. The requirements for this are:

  1. The footage needs to be available locally on the unit (i.e. if the footage is in the cloud but not available on the unit, it cannot be streamed from the unit).

  2. The general requirements for local streaming still apply.

How to Check if Local Streaming is Working

When local streaming is possible, you will see a blue circle in the top right:

You will see one of 4 possible colours:

  1. Green: Your Browser or app is communicating with our cloud in real-time.

  2. Amber: Your browser experiencing a slower connection, the information on your screen may take a little longer to update.

  3. Blue: TetherBox found locally and local streaming is enabled.

  4. Red: Connection has been completely lost.

You will see this status indicator on different pages in the platform, including the Events page and the Live view page.

Note: You will not see this indicator on pages that do not have real-time interactivity, such as the help pages.

What to Do if You Don't See a Blue Indicator

If you are on the same network as the TetherBox and you for some reason do not see a blue indicator, please refer to our: Local Streaming Troubleshooting Guide.
