September Update: Your New Home Tab, Faster Journaling, and More

A redesigned Home tab, a faster Throne Journal, and refreshed Session Details, Trends, and Weekly Reports. Your data and how your scores are calculated haven't changed.

What's changing, and what you need to do

Update the Throne app from the App Store or Google Play. That's the only step.

  • Refreshed Session Details, Trends, and weekly reports are live as soon as you update.

  • The new Home tab and updated Throne Journal turn on for everyone starting Thursday, September 10, 2026. They'll appear the next time you open the app.

  • Phone requirements: this version needs iOS 17.5 or later or Android 14 or later. If your phone is on an older operating system, update it first.

  • No Throne device update is needed. Hands-free, button, and Wi-Fi setup all work the same way.

Meet your new Home tab

Your Home tab is built around one idea: every time you open Throne, you should learn something about yourself.

Your latest insight now leads the screen: a visual about your most recent session, paired with guidance and insights about that session.

It might be about your gut health or your hydration, depending on what stood out.

  • Tap Learn more, or the visual itself, to open the full Session Details behind it.

  • Before your first session of the day, you'll see No session yet today. That's normal.

  • The background image changes when your insight changes, so a new look means there's something new to see.

Activity Log sits below your scores, with filters for Pee, Stool, Journal, and Empty.

Sessions still processing show an in-progress state so a new entry never looks like it went missing.

Date navigation next to your Activity Log, lets you step back through previous days.

The + button is where you add anything Throne can't capture automatically: Add journal entry, Log manual session, Answer questionnaire (when one is pending), and Report an issue.

Prompts on Home when something stands out

Sometimes a session is worth a note, and the best time to add it is right then. When that happens, Home shows a short card at the top of the screen asking for a bit of context.

A few examples:

  • Your last session's stool form was loose. If anything around that session stands out, add it to your journal.

  • Your log shows multiple overnight bathroom visits. If anything about last night stands out, such as drinks, meals, or sleep, add it to your journal.

  • No bowel movement logged today. If you had one, log it manually to keep your history complete.

  • Wrap up your day. Add anything from today you'd like to remember.

Home limits how many you'll see in a day so it never feels like a to-do list.

These are in-app cards, not push notifications.

Note: Journal prompts only appear if you've turned on the Gut Health Coach.

Your three scores, all in one place

Home shows your three scores as color-coded gauges, in the order you'll now see everywhere in the app: Hydration → Gut Health → Bathroom Habits.

Tap any score to open its Trends view:

Gut Health is still built from stool form and frequency; nothing about how any score is calculated changed.

Journal faster with the new checklist

The Throne Journal now opens with a checklist of your recurring factors (caffeine, late dinner, poor sleep, stress, dairy, and so on), built from what you've logged before, plus common options if you're new.

  1. Mark each relevant factor Today or Not today.

  2. Add anything outside the list in the freeform field.

  3. Tap Log & Continue, then choose Tell me about it to add detail with the Coach, or Done for today to save.

Not today tells the Coach a factor explicitly didn't apply. It doesn't mean the opposite happened; marking poor sleep as Not today doesn't tell the Coach you slept well.

The checklist is a shortcut, not a requirement. Coach opt-in, privacy controls (Settings → Gut Health Coach), and Insights are unchanged.

A refreshed Session Details view

Session Details has a cleaner layout: score summary and the session's insight up top, followed by Gut Health, Hydration, Uroflow, and Bathroom Habits.

  • Editing stool consistency, features, symptoms, and size now has clear Undo and Save controls.

  • Empty sessions (Throne detected a visit but recorded nothing) can now be opened and deleted.

  • Manual sessions save more reliably and reopen cleanly.

Explore your scores in Trends

Trends is now organized by score. Tap Hydration, Gut Health, or Bathroom Habits at the top to see that score's gauge, a comparison to your 30-day average, your 30-day low and high, and weekly trend cards below.

Tap a card's arrow for the full Trend View with Week and Month options.

The Calendar legend now reads left to right from lowest to highest, matching the gauges.

Updated weekly reports

Week in Review and First Week with Throne have refreshed charts, clearer score ranges, and consistent styling for community comparisons. The sections are the same; they're just easier to read.

Additional stool metrics (Beta)

Stool sessions now include an Additional stool metrics section in Session Details with Buoyancy, Diameter, and Volume.

These are labeled Beta because they rely on algorithms we're still refining. Treat them as directional; they don't affect your Gut Health Score. If a reading looks off, tell us through + → Report an issue.

What hasn't changed

  • Your data. Nothing was deleted, moved, or recalculated.

  • How scores are calculated. Only the display changed (0 to 100 hydration, four Bathroom Habits categories).

  • Your Throne device. No firmware update; sessions work the same way.

  • Data export. Still under your profile icon: CSV for any date range or a 90-day PDF report.

  • Gut Health Coach privacy. Consent, what's shared, and how to withdraw are unchanged.

Frequently asked questions

I updated the app but Home still looks the same.

The new Home tab and journal turn on for everyone starting Thursday, September 10. After that date, fully close and reopen the app; if it still hasn't changed, log out and back in, then reach out through the app if needed.

Where did Today's Takeaway and my insight cards go?

Today's Takeaway is now the insight at the top of Home. The swipe-through insight cards were replaced by that single insight; Coach Insights (Helps / Hurts) are still in the Insights tab.

Why is my Hydration Score different from before?

The measurement isn't different. Hydration is now displayed on a 0 to 100 scale, and readings that used to show above 100 are capped at 100.

Should I trust Buoyancy, Diameter, and Volume?

They're Beta metrics we're still refining, so treat them as directional. They don't affect your Gut Health Score. If one looks wrong, tell us through + → Report an issue.

Can I turn off the prompts at the top of Home?

You can dismiss any prompt, and Home limits how many appear in a day. Journal prompts only show if the Gut Health Coach is turned on; if you withdraw consent under Settings → Gut Health Coach, journal prompts stop.

Does the journal change my scores?

No. Scores come from what Throne measures during sessions. Journal entries add context so the Coach can help you interpret them.

My phone says it can't install the update.

The latest app requires iOS 17.5 or later, or Android 14 or later. Update your phone's operating system, then try the App Store or Google Play again. You may also have low memory on your phone.
