Arena (TTRS)

Written by Jen Pierce

🏆 What is Arena?

Arena is a live multiplayer game where students can compete against each other in real-time. It’s perfect for whole-class participation or smaller groups, making learning both competitive and fun. Students can join the same game room, and once enough players are ready, the game begins!

  • 1-minute games: Each Arena game lasts for 60 seconds, creating a quick environment that keeps students focused.

  • Multiplayer format: Students can play alongside their classmates or challenge peers in the same Arena room.

  • Live leaderboard: Players can see their rankings in real-time, motivating them to improve and answer quickly.

🔄 How Arena Works

  1. Adapts to Player Levels: Arena uses the TTRS algorithm that adjusts the difficulty of questions for each student, ensuring that everyone is challenged at their level.

  2. Rewards for Correct Answers: Students earn 1 coin for each correct answer.

  3. Contributes to Heatmap: Each Arena game contributes to a student's heatmap, which tracks their progress and helps teachers identify areas for improvement.

📋 Teacher Settings for Arena

Teachers have control over which times tables are included in the Arena games. This can be adjusted on the Set Tables page in the teacher dashboard:

  • Default Settings: All tables are available by default.

  • Customising Tables: Teachers can turn off specific tables if needed, but it’s generally recommended to leave all tables enabled to ensure balanced competition and let the algorithm do the work!

👀 Spectator Mode

Teachers have the option to spectate ongoing Arena games. This allows you to watch all players live on the big screen as they compete, making it a great way to cheer on classmates.
