Available to all schools from 9th January 2025 onwards.

Kickstart the new year with an effortless way to engage your students! The Glow Up:

  • Is completely FREE with any TTRS subscription.

  • Must be turned on by a teacher in your school (instructions below).

Includes:

β€‹βš‘ Electrifying new colour themes to show off your students' unique style.

πŸŽ₯ Cinematic game cutscenes to deliver epic vibes.

😎 New accessibility options so your students can play their way and own the stage.

Important: Are you a Year 4 teacher in England? If so, please note that the Glow Up includes changes to the look of the OUMTC (mock MTC). See these changes.

How to turn on the Glow Up:

Surprises are fun. But, as teachers, we like to plan ahead! So we're giving YOU the power to choose when to switch to the new version at your school. πŸ‘Š Nothing will change until you're ready to go!

  1. Log in as any teacher and click Settings & Admin (in the far left menu)

  2. Click Early Access Features (top of the screen)

  3. Click Active

  4. Some students may need to log out and log back in for the changes to take effect.

Tip: If students are still seeing the old version of the app, this means the app will need to be updated. Please speak to your IT person to ensure the app is up to date or, if playing from home, ask the student's adult to update the app for them by downloading the update from the appropriate app store.

Student video to introduce the changes:

New game screen design:

The game screens have been given a makeover, with new graphics to inspire and engage students!

Tip: The game screen now includes the name of the game currently being played. This is handy if you're in class looking over students' shoulders to see what they're playing!

New colour themes:

Students have 5 new colour themes to choose from, as well as the existing 6 accessibility colour themes.

They select a colour theme by clicking their avatar, then Settings.

New game animations:

Every game now includes a unique animated countdown instead of the original 5,4,3,2,1 countdown.

New options to remove distractions:

Some students prefer a simplified game interface so they can focus completely on the questions. In Settings, they have the option to:

  1. Turn the game background to a plain background:

  2. Turn on declutter mode to remove all distractions including the background, guitar, next question and more:

  3. Turn off the animated countdown and instead have 5 lighting bolts counting down to the game start:

All these settings can be found by the student clicking their avatar, then clicking Settings.

English schools - OUMTC changes:

The Officially Unofficial MTC (OUMTC for short) is our mock MTC which happens three times a year. Find out more.

We've had many requests to make the OUMTC as close as possible to the real thing, so included in this Glow Up, is a new version of the OUMTC game screen.

*This is the new default view. Students can still choose from a variety of accessibility colour options.

This brings it closer to the real check, which is visible below:

Frequently asked questions

Do students need to update the app to see the new version?

Yes, once you have visited the Early Access Features and clicked "Active" you'll need to make sure the apps are updated on their devices. Please speak to your IT person to ensure the app is up to date or, if playing from home, ask the student's adult to update the app for them by downloading the update from the appropriate app store.

Do we have to pay for these changes?

No, this is completely free!

Can I wait indefinitely to activate the Glow Up?

No, we're going to be rolling out these changes to all schools in February (date to be decided but we'll let you know in advance when this will happen). So the option to activate the Glow Up on a date of your own choice is time-limited. But we know your students will love it so there is no need to wait!

Where can teachers change their own colour theme?

Currently the colour theme options are only available for students. Teacher accounts are built slightly differently to students, and it's not (yet) been possible for us to offer this option. However, our developers are working on this right now and in the next few weeks we expect colour themes for teachers to be made available as well as students. In the meantime, you'll just have to be a bit jealous of their colourful games!
