4 things you need to know about Avatar Seasons
An Avatar Season is a limited-edition avatar outfit.
The Avatar Season outfit will be available from 11th of May to 26th of June.
Avatar seasons encourage children to log in and play TTRS.
To get the most out of the season, you should show your students the video, put up the poster (linked below), and try some classroom activities focused on square numbers (ideas listed below)
What is an Avatar Season?
What is an Avatar Season?
An avatar season is when we make a special avatar outfit available for a short time. Students can only buy this outfit during the Avatar Season. Once the Season is over, it won't be available to purchase ever again. It's a common practice in most video games, so your students are probably already familiar with the term "Season".
Why do we run Avatar Seasons?

The limited time availability of the outfit will create a sense of urgency and encourage your students to log in and play. It also gives you another reason to talk about times tables and keep them front and centre of everybody's minds.
How do I use the Avatar Season with my students?
How do I use the Avatar Season with my students?
Students can purchase the special avatar items from the avatar store with the coins they earn when they play TTRS. To make the most of the season, it's important that you introduce it to your students. You can show them our Avatar Season introduction video and put up the special poster.
Will the Avatar Season encourage excessive screen time?
Will the Avatar Season encourage excessive screen time?
In short, no. To buy the entire season collection, students just need to answer 27 questions correctly in the Garage each day. For some students, that will be 1 game of garage, lasting 1 minute. That's well within the 3-5 minutes of daily practice we already recommend. The season is designed to encourage regular play, rather than excessive play.
How can I explore square numbers with my class?
How can I explore square numbers with my class?
Exploring square numbers works best when it’s visual, hands-on, and pattern-focused. The key idea is helping children see that square numbers come from multiplying a number by itself (e.g., 3 × 3) and that they form actual square shapes.
Here are some activities you can try:
Build-a-Square (Hands-on)
Give students counters, cubes, or tiles and ask them to:
Make a 1×1 square, then 2×2, 3×3, 4×4, etc.
Count how many objects are in each square
👉 They’ll discover:
1, 4, 9, 16, 25...
Each number makes a perfect square shape
Patterns Investigation
Ask:
"Are there any patterns in the square numbers?"
1, 4, 9, 16, 25...
They may notice:
The numbers alternate between odd and even!
“What happens each time we make the square bigger?”
Children can build or draw squares and look at how many new blocks are added each time.
They may notice:
+3, +5, +7, +9… (odd numbers!)
Coloured Charts (100 or 144 Square)
Use a times tables square grid:
Colour in square numbers
Look for patterns (they move diagonally!)
You can download the TTRS times tables square here
To help you get your students fired up about the season, we’ve made a short video that you can show them. It explains the concept of avatar seasons, introduces the items and explains how to buy them.
We’ve also designed a Season poster that you can print and put up in your classroom. You can find that in downloads > display.
