With Pastoral classes, you have the option to place pupils into a secondary class separate from their main "Maths class" This flexibility means that schools use Pastoral Groups in many different ways, including:

  • Registration or form groups (if different to Maths group)

  • TTRS lunchtime clubs or intervention groups

  • School Houses

  • Live, head-to-head competitions between fastest individuals in school

  • Whole school impact reporting (e.g. Girls vs Boys)

How to set up a Pastoral Class

There are two ways to set up a Pastoral class, which will depend on whether or not your pupils have already been uploaded.

New pupils:

When you set up the CSV file, in order to upload your pupils, complete both the Maths class and the Pastoral class columns, for each child.

Existing pupils:

Firstly, create an empty Pastoral class by going to Account > Classes and clicking the New Class button. Give it a name, set "Pastoral" as the class type, then click Save.

Next, go to Account > Classes > Pastoral and open the list of "Ungrouped" users. Tick the names of the children you want to place in the new Pastoral class, then select the new class from the "Move to Pastoral class" button.

Tip: If the children are already sorted into Pastoral classes, you can temporarily move them out of their regular Pastoral classes and into another. This can be helpful if you're holding a live competition between children in different classes - just remember to return them to their correct Pastoral classes after the competition!
