Consent Collection

Collect recording consent from meeting participants before tl;dv joins your meetings

How Consent Collection works

When Consent Collection is enabled, tl;dv replaces the original meeting link in your calendar with a consent link.

When participants open the meeting, they are first taken to a consent page where they can choose whether to allow recording.

  • If they accept, they are redirected into the meeting and tl;dv can record

  • If they decline, tl;dv will not record the meeting

If a participant declines, recording is permanently disabled for that meeting (even if they change their mind later).

Before you start

To ensure Consent Collection works correctly:

  • Enable Consent Collection in your settings

  • Grant tl;dv calendar write permissions when prompted

  • Enable automatic recording for your calendar meetings

  • Schedule your meeting on your calendar

Consent Collection only applies to meetings that are automatically recorded. Meetings that are not scheduled on a calendar (for example, instant or ad-hoc meetings) will not trigger the consent flow.

Consent Collection only applies to meetings created after setup is complete. Meetings created before setup will not be updated retroactively.

What participants will see

When a participant clicks the meeting link, they’ll see a consent page before entering the meeting.

If consent is given

  • The participant joins the meeting normally

  • tl;dv joins and records the meeting

If consent is declined

  • The participant can still join the meeting

  • tl;dv will not join or record

If the bot has already joined when consent is declined, it will leave the meeting within a few seconds.

The tl;dv chrome extension or desktop app will show a message indicating that recording is disabled because consent was not granted.

If consent is declined by mistake, recording cannot be restarted for that meeting. To record, you’ll need to create a new meeting.

Who is asked for consent

  • The meeting organizer is not asked for consent

  • Other participants may be asked to give consent depending on your settings

You can choose to collect consent for:

  • Internal meetings

  • External meetings

  • All meetings

⚠️ Fallback behavior (email consent)

If tl;dv does not have permission to edit your calendar, it may fall back to an email-based consent request. In this case, participants may receive an email asking for consent instead of seeing the consent page before joining.

To ensure the expected experience, make sure calendar write permissions are granted.

Additional notes

Consent Collection works best when meetings are newly created after setup and managed directly through your connected calendar.

In some cases:

  • Recurring meetings may not behave consistently

  • Changes made by other calendar tools or integrations may affect the meeting setup
