Overview

A Time Away From Work (TAFW) tier is a grouping of settings that define an employee's time away policy. TAFW tiers can be assigned to employees individually or, for faster onboarding, they can be assigned to specific positions. For example, if you know all of your BOH staff will have the same TAFW tier, then you can set up Toast Payroll to automatically choose that tier when someone is hired to a BOH position. Their TAFW tier can be still changed during individual onboarding or after the employee was hired.

There are a couple of things to keep in mind with defaulting TAFW tiers to positions:

  • If you follow the steps below and assign a TAFW to default to a position, Toast Payroll does not retroactively assign the TAFW tier to current employees with that position.

  • If salary-type employees and/or positions should have TAFW tiers enabled, start a chat with us by selecting the blue chat button in the lower-right corner of any Toast Payroll page.
