Question
If a salaried employee takes an unpaid day off, how would I change their check amount to reflect one less day?
Answer
If you use Toast Payroll Pro and the Time Away From Work (TAFW) module, you might be able to use a TAFW bucket to reflect the employee's unpaid time off, depending on your own setup. Check out Toast Payroll: Make Adjustments to Time Away From Work (TAFW) to see more.
Otherwise, even if you use the TAFW module, you always have the option to manually edit the earnings (wages) an employee is paid during payroll. You can even set a reminder (known as a Payroll To-Do) to make this adjustment when you actually run payroll.
To change a salaried employee's earnings on a single payroll:
Select View Payroll from the Toast Payroll dashboard.
Select Preview for the appropriate payroll.
On the Preview Payroll step, select Start payroll.
If you set a payroll to-do, you'll see it here in the Insights tile.
On the Employee Earnings step, locate the salaried employee and their recurring earning. It will be labeled SALARY.
Select the three dots to the right of the SALARY earning and choose Edit Earning.
In the Amount field, reduce this number to apply the wage reduction. Then select Change earning to save.
Continue with payroll as you normally would.
