The Comp Card Integration function allows you to provide a guest or employee with a "free" physical voucher that can be redeemed without liability or taxable revenue like a gift card. The use of the comp card is an expense for your restaurant for free goods to be honored at a later date.
If you are subscribed to a Comp Card Integration partner and would like to enable Comp Cards, contact Customer Care to get the module enabled. At this time, the Comp Card functionality is not yet available to customers without subscribing to an integration partner.

Use a Comp Card Integration
Activating a Comp Card
Open a new order on the POS. Select Comp Cards then Activate.
Swipe or key enter the Comp Card number on the card entry screen. If the card is entered correctly and valid, an "Adding Value Successful" message with the Comp Card's details will appear.
Add Value to a Comp Card
Adding value to a Comp Card will add a check-level discount in the applied amount to the Comp Card.
On the POS, select Comp Cards and then Add Value.
Next, enter the card amount, the card number, and then select Done
A window will appear stating "Adding Value Successful." Note: The value added to the Comp Card will appear as a separate discount from the existing value.
Check the Balance of a Comp Card
Open a new order on the POS. Select Comp Cards and Balance Inquiry.
Swipe or key-enter the Comp Card number in the card number entry screen. If the card information is entered correctly and valid, a "Balance Inquiry Results" message with the Comp Card's details will appear.
Redeem a Comp Card
Once a check is ready for payment, a Comp Card can be redeemed in the Payment screen on the POS. Note: Only one item-level discount can be present on the check when a Comp Card is used. This includes other discounts such as a loyalty discount. This restriction does not apply to checks with a check level Comp Card discount.
In the Payment screen, select Other to open the Payment Type window then select Comp Card. This will open the Comp Card entry screen.
In the Comp Card entry screen, swipe or key-enter the Comp Card number. Once entered, a pop-up window will appear stating that the order has been fully or partially paid for.
The application of the Comp Card will appear as a discount on the guest's check and if applicable, the remaining balance of the check can be paid using another form of payment.
Comp Card Integrations Reporting
In Toast Web, reporting of Comp Card activity can be tracked using the Discount Summary report. All other reporting such as outstanding balances and performance will appear in your provider's reporting.
Note: Activations and add value do not appear in Toast's reporting. Partner with your provider to track these actions or who performed them.
To view the Discount Summary report, navigate to Reports > Discounts > Cash and loss management in Toast Web. In the image below, you can see the $8.99 off Check Comp Card discount was used.
FAQ
How can I see the generated Comp Card?
This reporting is provided by the integration provider. Partner with your Comp Card provider to determine how to track this information.
Can I set or change a Comp Card's expiration date?
Expiration dates are set by your Comp Card provider.
What do Comp Card discounts look like for guests?
Comp Card discounts appear on the guest's receipts like other discounts. See below:
Can a guest check their Comp Card balance online?
Your Comp Card provider manages any online balance inquiry functionality.
Why use a comp card instead of a discount?
As mentioned above, goods that your guest or employee receives from redeeming a comp card will not be taxable revenue, whereas you may be subject to taxes on discounted goods provided.
Additionally, a comp card acts as physical proof that your guest or employee earned a gift, which can be redeemed in the future, whereas discounting a check entirely must be done immediately and isn’t tethered to proof of your guest or employee having earned a gift.
