Seamless checkout using a Toast Pay saved card is currently in limited release with select customers. Check back soon for updates! |
Seamless Checkout Overview
Provide your guests with a seamless checkout experience. When a guest saves their credit card on file while booking a reservation, servers can bypass the physical card swipe at the end of the meal. With a simple verbal confirmation, you can process the payment directly on the POS using the saved card details.
Note: This feature is currently in Beta. To request access for your restaurant, please email informedhospitality@toasttab.com. Once granted access, you must use Toast Tables to utilize this feature.
Process a Payment with a Saved Card With Seamless Checkout
When a guest with a reservation is seated, their saved card information is securely linked to their table and order. On the POS, you will notice a green Saved Card bar on the check view, indicating that a card is on file for this party. When it's time to settle the bill, follow these steps:
From the order screen, select Pay ($) at the bottom right of the screen to enter the Payment screen.
If the guest has a card linked to their reservation, you will see a Saved Card button at the top of the payment options list, displaying the last four digits of the card (e.g., Visa ending in 1234).
Confirm with the guest: Ask the guest if they would like to use the card they saved with their reservation.
Once the guest confirms, select Saved Card. This will process the payment for the balance on the order.
Tip and Sign: After the card is successfully charged, the POS will proceed directly to the tip screen. Hand the device to the guest so they can select their tip amount and sign, or print the receipt for a traditional pen-and-paper signature and tip.
Select Close Check once the tip is finalized and entered.
Note: Even if a guest has a saved card on file, all other standard payment methods (like cash, physical credit card swipe/tap, or gift cards) are still available for use on the payment screen.
Seamless Checkout Troubleshooting & FAQ
Why don't I see the "Saved Card" button on the payment screen?
This usually happens if the host did not seat the party using the digital reservation book (meaning the guest's profile was never linked to the POS order). It can also occur if the guest opted not to save a card when making their reservation. In these cases, simply take payment using a physical card or cash.
