Mirror the content on a TV

Mirror your live recording or sessions done with your device to a TV

How can this be beneficial for your event

Mirroring the app screen to a TV will make the 360 booths more of an experience for everyone watching. It can be mirrored wirelessly using an Apple TV box, Chromecast or wired using an HDMI cable. The external session can be launched on a portrait or landscape TV.

You can also enable a QR sharing bar. That will allow the visitors to see the 4 (2 for portrait) latest files and use a QR to download the files, creating a sharing station built on the TV.

Requirements

  • An iPhone, iPad or Android device

  • A TV with an HDMI connection

  • Wireless option: Apple TV box or Chromecast

  • Wired option: HDMI cable and an HDMI to USB-c or HDMI to Lightning adaptor

Session, Slideshow and Mosaic

There are three types of TV experiences to mirror from your device.

  • Session: This experience shows everything the camera device is doing, live view, countdown, end result

  • Slideshow: This experience displays gallery elements in random order. The latest will display the final results after a session is finished

  • Mosaic: Display the mosaic result from Photo Mosaic in your TV

Complementary experiences:

  • Standby: Do not display any session. Cast a background to the TV that can be used as marketing or branding

  • Show both: Enable both "show session" and "slideshow" in one setting

Wireless mirroring

Connect to an Apple TV or Chromecast wirelessly using the same network. This method is useful to share from the recording device on 360 platforms or set-ups where cables are not convenient.

  • iOS: Swipe down the Control Center of your iPhone or iPad. Tap on the 'Mirror Screen' icon, tapping your Apple TV box item.

  • Android: Use 'Google Home' app to link to your Chromecast device.

Wired mirroring

This method avoids using additional equipment. This method is more stable, but inconvenient for 360 platforms. Useful to connect the sharing station and mirror the slideshow to the TV.

  • Plug one end of the HDMI cable into a TV, then the other end into an adaptor compatible with your iPhone or iPad connector, then connect it to your device.

Configuration

The external screen can be configured in the event manager and in Touchpix app settings. Here is how to configure the TV session:

  1. Open Touchpix website and find your event manager or Touchpix app in your device

  2. Find the event you want to edit and click on its name

  3. Scroll down and select 'TV Functions' option

  4. Select the desired experience tab

  5. (Optional) If you'd like a vertical TV session/slideshow, change to 'Show Session' tab and toggle on 'Vertical TV' option and decide the correct orientation (left or right)

Keynotes

  • Avoid using direct connection to smart TVs, since Touchpix will not control the mirroring properly

  • Connecting to a TV wirelessly requires to be connected to the same network as your Apple TV or Chromecast

  • To troubleshoot wired connections, change the direction of the HDMI cables, since some of them may be build unidirectionally.
