In this article, we will discuss ways Golf Genius Tournament Management Club users could collect scores from players without collecting scorecards for players. We will look at two options a manager could use to collect scores from players without having to physically collect scorecards:
Text Scorecard to Manager
Using a Google Sheet on the Portal
Text Scorecard to Manager:
An easy way for players to send scores to the golf staff or a manager would be to simply text a picture of a scorecard to the manager. This can be as simple as taking a picture with a phone and texting the completed and signed scorecard. Some ideas to help facilitate this method would be:
Make sure handwritten notes and scores are legible
Try to capture the clearest picture possible
Include instructions on the scorecard for who to text the scorecard to (as shown below)
Using a Google Sheet On the Portal:
Another way to collect scores would be to create a Google Sheet that could be set up to allow players to enter hole-by-hole scores and link it on the Welcome Page (Collage Page) on the portal. A manager could then re-enter the scores on the Enter Scores page.
When using this option, it is easy for the players to enter scores. If there are multiple rounds in the event or league, you can also create multiple tabs within the sheet (allowing you to collect scores all in one location).
Keep in mind that while this solution is viable, there is no way to lock scores (and players may mistakenly change or remove scores of other players). Furthermore, there is no way to verify or attest scores.
To use this option, follow these instructions:
Create a Google Sheet: Set up a google sheet suitable for score entry (as shown below).
Click Here for instructions on setting up a Google Sheet.
Copy the sharable Google Sheet Link. You can find the link by clicking "Share" at the top right (as shown below).
Go to the event portal and edit the Welcome Page (as shown below). The Welcome Page is a Collage Page that is added by default to all portals.
After clicking Edit, follow the steps below:
Click "Add Text"
Format your text
Click and highlight the text to create a clickable link
Click the link icon
Paste the sharable Google Sheet link (copied in step 2 above)
Click "Apply Text Change"
Reposition the text on your Welcome Page
Save the page
The link will then be available on the Welcome Page for players to access.
The sequence below shows the process of adding the Google Sheet Link to the Welcome Page. For more details on using Collage Pages, Click Here.
