The USGA Course Rating Directory (CRD) contains important course information for all golf courses in the USGA database. It's important that the courses contained in your Course Details are imported from the USGA CRD for the following reasons:
Required to be World Handicap System (WHS) Compliant
Required for hole-by-hole score posting
Required for posting 9-hole scores
Required for posting rounds with incomplete scores
To allow scores to be used for Playing Condition Calculations (PCC)
To allow scores to be used for playing statistics
In this article, we will discuss how to import courses from the USGA CRD, edit the courses, and how to understand the WHS Compliancy Warnings.

Importing Courses from the USGA CRD:
To import a course from the USGA CRD, follow these instructions:
Go to Customer Center > Customer Settings > Course Details > Import from USGA Course Rating Directory.
Search and select the course (as shown below).
Select the tees to import (as shown below). Note: If you would like this feature enable, please contact our support team.
Click "Next".
If the course being imported is not replacing an existing course in your Course Details, click "Import" and the course will be imported. If the course being imported is replacing an existing course, continue following the instructions below.
Select "Copy data from existing course" (as shown below), select the existing course in the dropdown, and click "Next".
Select the data you'd like to import from the existing course. By default, every data type will be selected (as shown below).
If yardage information is missing in the USGA CRD, then it will be required to be copied from the existing course to ensure the information is contained in TMS.
Select the option to "Archive existing course". The data from the archived course will still be available, but will not be used for any future events or leagues.
Click "Next".
Match the tees from the USGA CRD (on the left) with the tees from the existing course in TMS (on the right) as shown below.
Click "Next".
If there are unmatched tees in the existing TMS course, you can optionally select to copy and import those tees as well (as shown below).
Click "Import".
The course will then be imported and listed as WHS Compliant in the Course Details (as shown below).
Editing Courses Imported from the USGA CRD:
After importing a course from the USGA CRD, you can edit the course (if necessary) in the Course Details. You can edit all course information except Course Rating, Slope rating, and Gender (as shown below).
While you can edit the par and Stroke Index, this will generate a WHS Compliance Warning (discussed below), and the course or tee(s) can no longer be used to post hole-by-hole scores.
WHS Compliance:
Tees within a course must meet the standards set by the World Handicap System to be WHS Compliant. All tees for each course within your Course Details are checked daily to ensure they are compliant. The courses will be labeled for compliance in your Course Details (as shown below).
Courses will be labeled with the following tags to show if their tee information is compliant:
Fully WHS Compliant (labeled in green): All tee information (ignoring yardage) in TM matches the tee information in the CRD. Hole-by-hole scores can be posted.
Partially WHS Compliant (labeled in orange): Stroke Index or pars in TM do not match the Stroke Index or pars in the CRD. Hole-by-hole scores cannot be posted, but 9 or 18 hole totals can be posted. the scores will still contribute to the PCC computation.
Not Compliant (labeled in red): Either the Slope Rating/Course Ratings do not match or the tee in TM no longer exists or new tees are available in the CRD. Hole-by-hole scores cannot be posted, but 9 or 18 hole totals can be posted. the scores will still contribute to the PCC computation.
WHS Compliance can also be viewed when editing the course for the course and the tees within the course (as shown below). The course's compliance depends on the compliance of the tees within the course. If a course or tee has a warning, hover over the "WHS Compliant" label to view the warning details and instructions for resolving the issue.
Below is the list of reasons for a warning:
Course Removed from the USGA CRD: The course has been removed from the USGA CRD and needs to be reimported (see import instructions above).
Tee in the USGA CRD has been updated: A tee within the course has been updated in the CRD (by removing the outdated tee and creating a new updated one). To resolve, reimport the course (see import instructions above).
New Tee Added to the USGA CRD: A new tee has been added to the course in the USGA CRD. To resolve, reimport the course (see import instructions above).
Stroke Index, Par, or Yardage Changed in TM: The Stroke Index, par, and/or yardage has been edited in TMS, making the course out of sync with the course in the USGA CRD. To resolve, edit the course information in TM so that it is consistent with with the course information in the USGA CRD.
New Tee Added to TM that is not available in the USGA CRD: A new tee has been manually added to the course in TM and is not yet contained in the USGA CRD. To resolve this, contact your golf association and request to have it added to the USGA CRD. Once added, reimport the course.
While course and tee compliance are checked daily, you can also manually check a course compliance from the Customer Center by following these directions:
Go to Custom Setting > Course Details.
For the course you need to check, click the action drop-down and select "Check WHS Compliance" (as shown below). The check will be made, and the results will be displayed for your convenience.
