Create Multi-Round Pairings for Golf Trips

Updated over 4 months ago

This article is intended for the users of the following products:

Most golf trips are more than one round of golf and most of the time the goal in scheduling pairings for golf trips is balancing the pairings and minimizing repeats. The Multi-Round Pairings Scheduler will create the most mathematically balanced pairings possible while allowing you to set certain parameters.

Creating Multi-Round Pairings for a Trip:

When you are ready to create the pairings, go to Trip > Multi-Round Pairings.

When going to this page, you will see the list of all your rounds. Select the rounds that you'd like our scheduler to create pairings for. Sometimes golf trip managers like to use our scheduler for all of their rounds but their final round. They may like to custom create pairings for the final round. If that is the case, leave the final round unchecked. If creating custom pairings for a round, go to The Rounds Menu for that round, Create New Pairings, then create pairings manually.

There will be a dropdown menu to select by teams for each round. If your golf trip doesn't have teams, then disregard this step and leave it at "Don't Use Teams" for all the rounds. If you have teams, and you'd like to create pairings by team, then select the team list you'd like to create pairings by. For instructions on creating teams, Click Here.

The other column is the "Pair By" column. If you have teams selected, then these will be your options

  1. Doesn't Matter - Schedule and balance pairings as best as possible. Don't worry about organizing by teams in any way.

  2. Team (partners) - Two Teammates play together in each foursome. Ideal for Four Ball, singles matches, doubles matches.

  3. Team (foursome)- Teammates play together as foursomes. Ideal for best ball of foursome, 4-person scrambles.

  4. Team (spread)- Spread teammates apart from each other as best as possible. If there are two person teams, this will avoid teammates from being paired with each other.

If you did not select teams, the pair by options would be:

  1. Doesn't Matter- Schedule and balance pairings as best as possible.

  2. AB - Golf Genius will look at all the player's Handicap Indexes and assign each as an A player or B player. So each foursome will have two A players and two B players ordered by ABAB.

  3. ABCD - Golf Genius will look at all the player's Handicap Indexes and assign each as an A,B,C, or D player. Each foursome will be ordered by ABCD.

  4. Flight - If you've create flights of players (You can do this under Manage Flights/Teams under the Golfers Menu), the scheduler will make sure each player will only play with players within his/her flight.

Adding Rules:

Oftentimes there may be tweaks or special rules that need to be created for trip pairings. For instance, maybe John will not be playing the final round. Or Michelle needs to be paired with Michael on the 3rd round. You can create these rules by clicking on Rules > Add Rule, then create the rule (as shown below).

Once your settings and rules are finalized, click on "Create Pairings". The pairings will then be generated for all the rounds.

You can always go back, change settings and rules, and re-create the pairings. Keep in mind that you will need to reset all the tees and starting holes/times.

If you'd like to make manual tweaks within a round, Go to the Rounds > Edit Existing Pairings. Click Here for details on editing pairings for a specific round.
