Should I create an event or league?

Updated over 4 months ago

Q: I see there is an option to create an event or league. Which one should I create?

A: We suggest creating a league for weekly play. For everything else, create an event.

(Note: When creating a Men's Golf Association (MGA) or Women's Golf Association (WGA), you can either create one league or multiple events. To help determine what is best for your situation, Click Here.)

Leagues Characteristics:

  • Generally include 6 or more rounds of golf.

  • Rounds are usually played weekly over the course of the season.

  • All the players in the league play every week (round robin league) or some of the players in the league play each week.

Event Characteristics:

  • Generally include 5 or less rounds of golf.

  • Event is usually played over the course of 1-4 days (Exception: Season-Long Bracket Match Play).

  • All the players in the event generally play every round.

Technically, events and leagues work very similarly in our system. The only significant difference is how divisions, flights, and teams are synced. If you make changes to your global DFTs under the Golfers Menu, those changes will propagate to all the future round-level DFTs (found under Rounds Menu) for events. However, for leagues, if the planning for a round has already started, changes to the global DFTs will not automatically propagate to that round.
