Setting up a Men's Golf Association (MGA) or Women's Golf Association (WGA)

Updated over 4 months ago

MGAs and WGAs are very common at golf clubs. These series of "events" often include a season points race throughout the year. When setting up an MGA/WGA with our software, you have two options:

  1. Create a single league that includes all of the MGA/WGA events.

  2. Create a separate event for every MGA/WGA event.

To help you determine what is best for your situation, consider the following:

  • If there are multi-round tournaments in your MGA/WGA (e.g., Member/Guest, Member/Member, Bracket Tournaments), we highly suggest using option #2. When including multi-round tournaments in a league, setup and management can become complex and user-unfriendly.

  • It is likely that you will want a single primary portal that includes all of the MGA/WGA information (results, pairings, standings, rules, etc). When using a single league, this is done by default with a single league portal.

However, you can still use option #2 above and have a primary MGA/WGA portal. To do this:

    • Create a directory and include all MGA or WGA events.

    • Create a "stand-alone" portal (Customer Center > Customer Settings > Other Portals). This will be your primary MGA/WGA portal.

    • Add the Directory of Leagues and Events Portal Page to the "stand-alone" portal. When adding the portal page, select the new MGA or WGA directory. (as shown below)

This page will list all of the events of the MGA or WGA. From there, players can access the specific portals for all of the MGA or WGA events.

(Note: If you are a Golf Genius TM Club user, you do not have the ability to create "stand-alone" portals. If a primary MGA/WGA portal is required, use option #1 above.)

  • When it comes to managing MGA/WGA point races, using our Season Points feature is ideal. However, it can only be used if using option #2 above. (Note: If you are a Golf Genius TM Club customer, you can only create one season points race at a time using this feature. If you need to manage a WGA and MGA race concurrently, then you will need to use option #1 above.)

If managing an MGA/WGA in a league, you can keep track of points by including the point setup in all of your tournaments. Go to Rounds > Tournaments (If setting up a multi-round tournament go to Event > Multi-Round Tournaments). Edit or add a new tournament that will be awarding points. Enter the point structure and save. (as shown below)

Complete this step for all the tournaments awarding points. Then add the Player Standings Portal Page to the portal. As points accumulate throughout the season, the standings will automatically be updated on this page.

  • If you are allowing players to register for MGA/WGA events online, we suggest using option #2. This will allow you to use Event and League Registration rather than Round Signups. The Round Signups feature is much more limited in functionality. However, if you are a Golf Genius TM Club user, Event and League Registration is not available.
