Sometimes qualifying rounds are needed for bracket tournaments in order to determine seeding. Below are the steps to create and use a qualifying round for seeding.

(Note: To view more information on bracket tournaments, Click Here.)

  1. Add additional round(s) to the bracket event for the qualifying round. For instance, if you are setting up a 32-person bracket tournament with an 18-hole qualifying round, you will need six total rounds in the event (one for the qualifying round, and 5 for the 32-person bracket). If the qualifier is 36 holes of Stroke Play, add two additional rounds. Go to Calendar > Add Rounds to accomplish this.

  2. Change the name of the rounds (as shown below) by going to Calendar > Tabular View of Calendar.

See above sequence as the round names are changed.

  3. If the qualifying round is 18-holes, go to Rounds > Tournaments for the qualifying round and create the qualifying Stroke Play tournament. If the qualifying round is 36 holes, go to Event/League > Multi-Round Tournaments > Add New Multi-Round Tournament instead.

It is typically a player v. field (or team v. field) Stroke Play event. If there is a cut to make the bracket tournament, then go to the Advanced Options for Cut Lines. and Enter the cut. For instance, if only the top 32 players will make the bracket, then select the cut to be the top 32.

  4. Create the qualifying round pairings, set the course/tee, tee times/starting holes. Enter scores for the qualifying round to determine the results. If there is a cut in the qualifying round, and there are ties that need to be broken to get exactly 16, 32, etc players, then go to Rounds > Display Leaderboard and click "Resolve Ties" (as shown below).

In the qualifying round above, one of the T16 players need to be cut in order to create a 16-person bracket.

  5. Create the bracket tournament (Event/League > Bracket Tournaments). When selecting the rounds to be used for the bracket tournament, make sure the qualifying round(s) are unchecked (as shown below).

In the setup above, we are creating a 16-person bracket. The qualifying round was December 6th, so leave that unchecked. The remaining four rounds will be used for the bracket tournament.

  6. After setting up the bracket format, set the first round using the "Auto-fill" tab (as shown below).

Select "Previous Results" then the qualifying tournament. If there are ties in the qualifying tournament, they will need to be resolved to establish proper seeding. Select a tie breaking method. If the final bracket spots are not determined yet (players still on the course), you can create the bracket and fill the undetermined seeds as TBDs and fill them in later.

Click "Go" and the first round matches will be created. If there was a cut, the players who did not make the cut will not be included in the bracket.
