Connecting the TV Display with Chromebit

This feature is available for the following products:

For those using the TV Display, there are several ways to connect the leaderboard display to the TV. A great solution to accomplishing this is by using a Chromebit as seen below.

A Chromebit is a relatively inexpensive device that is inserted into an HDMI port of a TV. It essentially turns a TV into a Chromebook. This is a great alternative for those without a Smart TV. Paired with a wireless keyboard and mouse, this method can prove to be very effective.

In this article, we will discuss this connection method in detail:

What you need:

To use this method, you need:

  • TV with HDMI ports

  • Chromebit

  • Keyboard

  • Mouse

  • USB hub (not needed if using a wireless Bluetooth keyboard and mouse)

How to Set it up:

Follow these steps:

  1. Connect the Chromebit to the TV by following the instructions provided with the Chromebit. If using a hardwired (not wireless) keyboard and mouse, follow the instructions to also connect the USB hub.

  2. Turn on the TV and go to the HDMI source the Chromebit is plugged into.

  3. Turn off any sleep mode or energy saving modes on the TV that may disrupt the display over a long period of time.

  4. Follow the instructions on the TV to complete the setup. You will need to:

    1. Enter the wireless internet password

    2. Log in with a Gmail account

  5. Turn on the wireless keyboard and mouse. Connect them to the Chromebit. The instructions on the TV will confirm when both are connected (Note: If connecting a hardwired mouse and keyboard to the USB Hub, then you should already be connected).

  6. Once everything is connected, go to the Chrome Browser to search and download the "Keep Awake" Chrome Extension. This extension will keep the Chromebit from going in "sleep mode" after a short period of time.

  7. After the extension is downloaded, click on the Keep Awake icon until the sun image is displayed as seen below.

8. Sleep mode will then be disabled and you can now navigate to the TV display link.
