💡 TOPS uses the CO2 calculation within Transporeon's Visibility Hub (VH). If you do not have real time visibility set up, then this functionality will not be operational.
The methodology and calculation methods are described here.
Order Requirements:
Required data for road: Origin and destination addresses (anyhow mandatory in TOPS) and Transport Mode (also here a TO will not exist without).
Required data for ocean: Valid UN port codes + Vehicle type and Weight.
Process
Create a Transport Order (TO) in TOPS and assign to the carrier.
When a Transport Order is assigned, we send the data to Visibility Hub (if configured).
Visibility Hub processes this data through two potential paths (see here for more details):
VH uses EcotransIT to calculate default CO2 emission. In general, the more and better data we have for the transport, the more accurate the calculation.
If available, VH uses primary data from the truck driving the transport. While this is best quality data, we rarely have it available.
The calculated CO2 values are visible in:
VH on order level.
TOPS Control Tower has a column “tonne CO2” on the TO grid (see screenshot).
TOPS outbound API has the value available as part of a potential data feed back into our your ERP or data lake.
Planned future improvement: TOPS analytics dashboard for CO2 reporting.
