Rota King can automatically adjust holidays for new employees based on their start date. This guide explains how holiday entitlement is automatically calculated and includes an example to help illustrate the process.
Any holiday adjustments are calculated based on the number of days remaining in the holiday year from the employee’s start date.
For example, if a new employee starts on 1st September and the holiday year runs from January to December, there are 121 days left in the year. We calculate their entitlement as follows:
Divide the remaining days by the total days in a year:
121 ÷ 365 = 0.33 (33%)Multiply this by the full annual entitlement (e.g., 28 days):
28 × 0.33 = 9.24 days, which is rounded up to 9.5 days
This means the employee is entitled to 9.5 days of holiday. If the system initially allocated the full 28 days, it would automatically apply an adjustment of –18.5 days.
