How Can I Repay a Cash Advance and Manage My Payment Methods on True Finance?
Worried you won't be able to pay on time?
Reach out before your due date — in some cases we may be able to adjust your repayment date to better align with your payday. See Can I Change My Payment Date? for details on eligibility. Reaching out early gives us the best chance to help before a payment attempt fails.
How Repayment Works
True Finance collects repayment automatically, in this order:
Plaid-Linked Bank Account (primary): Payments typically complete within 72 hours (1–3 business days), though most banks process it quicker.
Debit Card (backup, if the bank account attempt fails): Successful payments are processed instantly. If the debit card fails, the system will retry on the next allowed date.
Want to Pay Early or Repay Manually?
You can manually repay your cash advance if automatic collection fails or if you prefer to initiate payment directly:
Open the True Finance app.
Navigate to the Advance tab.
Select the unpaid advance.
Click the "Repay Now" button.
Note: manual repayment only applies to your most recent advance — earlier advances are collected automatically. If you need an earlier advance rerun on a specific date, reach out to customer service after ensuring your linked payment methods have sufficient funds.
If a Payment Fails
This usually means insufficient funds or a bank-side block. All failed payments are processed according to your bank's rules and systems, which are outside of True Finance's control. You can retry after 24 hours from the previous attempt, or contact your bank directly to resolve the issue on their end. You can also reach out to support to see whether adjusting your repayment date is an option going forward.
Updating or Adding a Payment Method
If your payment fails or you want to use a different card, follow the steps below to add or update your debit card:
Navigate to Manage Subscription from settings. Click here to be redirected.
Press the "+ Add payment method" option under Payment Methods.
Ensure the new card is set as Primary for future payments.
A couple of things to know:
You can't change the payment method for an advance that's already in process — updates only apply to your next request.
If you have an unpaid cash advance, you can't remove your only payment method until it's fully repaid. Add a new one first, then remove the old one.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Can I pay previous advances manually?
No — repayment for previous advances is automatic. Manual repayment only applies to the latest advance. You can reach out to support to request a specific date or time for a previous advance to be collected.
How long does it take for repayments to process?
Debit Card payments: Instant upon successful transaction.
Bank Account payments: Up to 72 hours (1–3 business days), though most banks process it quicker.
What should I do if I need help updating payment methods?
Follow the update process under the "Manage Subscription" section, or contact True Finance support if you run into technical issues.
Wrap-Up
If you're ever unsure about an upcoming repayment, the best first step is reaching out before the due date — we're more likely to be able to help proactively than after a payment has already failed.
