Truss Scanner Mobile App - How to Scan Documents into Projects

How to use the Truss Scanner mobile app to quickly scan paper documents into your Truss projects.

What is the Truss Scanner app?

  • Scan paper documents with their phone

  • Securely upload them into a specific Truss project

  • Automatically rename and organize files using AI

Step 1: Open the Mobile Upload QR code

In Truss, open the project you want to upload documents to

  1. Click the gear icon (project settings)

  2. Select Mobile Upload

  3. A QR code will appear on screen


Step 2: Connect your phone to the project

You have two options:


Use the Truss Scanner app

  1. Open the Truss Scanner app on your phone

  2. Scan the QR code displayed in your Truss project

  3. The app will connect directly to that project

Use your phone’s camera

  1. Open your phone’s camera

  2. Point it at the QR code in your Truss project

  3. Tap the link that appears

  4. This will automatically open the Truss Scanner app and connect it to the project

No sign-in is required; the connection is made via the QR code.


Step 3: Scan and upload documents

  1. Use your phone’s camera to scan the document pages

  2. Confirm scan of the page

    1. Open page tools (tap thumbnail to adjust a scanned page)

    2. Adjust scan area

    3. Rotate page

    4. Delete page

    5. Retake page

    6. Back / close (to previous screen)

    7. Adjust scan area page: drag handles to adjust page corners

    8. Confirm adjust scan

  3. Confirm page (or multi-pages) of the document

  4. Upload to Truss and Finish

    i. Upload and scan the next document
    j. Cancel and log out of this project


Once uploaded:

  • The document is immediately added to the connected project

  • AI automatically renames the file

  • If the file matches an existing task, it is attached to that task

  • If no matching task is found, the file will remain unassigned in the project


Security & Privacy

  • Access is limited to Truss users

  • The app is not available to clients

  • Scanned documents are not saved locally on your device; they are uploaded directly to Truss

  • QR codes expire after two minutes and are automatically refreshed to protect project access


Troubleshooting

The QR code isn’t working or has expired

  • Refresh the Mobile Upload page to generate a new QR code

  • Make sure you scan it within two minutes

The app doesn’t open when I scan the QR code with my camera

  • Confirm you tapped the link that appears after scanning

  • Truss Scanner is installed on your device

My document isn’t attached to the right task

  • Check the project’s unassigned documents section

  • Manually move the file to the correct task if AI didn’t find a match

Issue with uploading files

  • If there’s an error uploading the file, an alert will appear in the bottom-right of the upload page and you’ll be able to retry the upload

  • If that still doesn’t work, try logging out of the project or restarting the app
