Animations typically consist of motion or effects and they do so within a single scene or frame. This is in contrast to transitions which apply motion and/or effects between two scenes or clips.
In Pencil's Template editor you can easily customise and apply a range of pre-built animations.
Open the video template that you want to work on and likely you will see a layout similar to this:
β
To apply animations we will be working with individual scenes so you will need to select the scene you want to add animations to. In the example above these are shown as 'Scene 1, Scene 2...'.
Selecting Scene 1 changes the view as follows:
β
It shows the name of the video file ('Video 3' in this case), and the scene can be played in the main editor window as expected.
On the right hand side of the screen select 'Animations' and you will see that there are three categories of animation:
In: These are animations that bring the scene into view
Out: These are animations that send the scene out of view
Combo: These are animations that do both of the above.
You can either apply one 'In' animation and one 'Out' animation OR you can apply a 'Combo' animation.
Simply clicking on an animation will apply it, and animations can be customised in terms of Duration, Delay and, where applicable, Direction. Hovering over an animation and clicking on the three dots will reveal these options.
You can easily try different animations or combinations of animations and playback the scene to preview what you have applied.
