ADA Assist and ADA Total Leave are separate URL systems. Each platform has separate URL's for Employees and Admins to access.
Total Leave:
If an employee needs to request a LEAVE they should access the Unum Leave Portal at They will go to the Total Leave URL at login.unum.com to access everything for Claims and Leaves. Once the employee submits a leave request, they will be evaluated by the Eligibility team.
If it is determined that they are ineligible for FMLA or have exhausted FMLA, depending on your ADA Assist set up, the employee will receive one of the following language on their TL Ineligible/Exhaustion letter:
Option 1: “You may have leave available to you as a reasonable accommodation under the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) if it does not create an undue hardship to your employer. Please reach out to your HR department at barb.ell@bowmanandbrooke.com to inquire about your potential rights under the ADA.”
Option 2: “You may have leave available to you as a reasonable accommodation under the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) if it does not create an undue hardship to your employer. Please reach out to your HR department at barb.ell@bowmanandbrooke.com to inquire about your potential rights under the ADA. You can also request an accommodation by visiting adaassist.unum.com .”
The HR team will also see a banner under the employees TL Portal information that advises that the employee may be eligible for an ADA Accommodation due to their leave status. This will be another touchpoint to direct the employee to the ADA Assist for an ADA Accommodation.
ADA Assist:
When an employee needs an ADA Accommodation, there are many ways an Employer can invite them into the ADA Assist process:
Send an invite directly to the employee from the ADA Assist. You can add an employee’s email address to their user card and then you can send them an invitation to submit their ADA Accommodation into the ADA Assist tool. Here is an article that can assist you with this process of adding their email and here is an article to assist with sending the registration to an employee in the ADA Assist.
You can send them the ADA Assist Employee Flyer located in our ADA Assist Employer Hub. They can register and then submit their accommodation directly into the tool.
You also can use any of our email templates that we have in this Communications Kit to send the employee an email inviting them into the tool.
ADA Assist and ADA Total Leave are separate URL systems. So, when your employee needs an ADA Accommodation, they will go to adaassist.unum.com and create their account using their last 4 digits of their SSN and the DOB. Admins for the HR team will also access the ADA Assist Admin Dashboard at that same URL as you have Admin Access.
After the employee has submitted their ADA Assist Accommodation request, you and your admin team will get a notification of the request in your daily email. This will be the sign to go in to review the request for approval and denial.
As always, reach out to adaassistsupport@unum.com with any questions.
