Want your Upfirst virtual receptionist to answer only when you can't? Conditional call forwarding sends calls to Upfirst when:
Your line is busy
You don't answer after several rings
Your phone is turned off or out of service

An important note for iPhone users
Important: You must disable live voicemail first. If you skip this step, your calls may go to voicemail instead of your Upfirst receptionist.
How to disable live voicemail
Go to Settings
Scroll down and tap Phone
Tap "Call Forwarding & Visual Voicemail"

Conditional call forwarding instructions for popular VOIP and web phone systems
Google Voice
Google Voice doesn't allow conditional call forwarding. They only offer the option to forward all calls. You can set this up by following these instructions.
Quo (OpenPhone)
To forward unanswered calls:
Login to your OpenPhone account
Click Settings on the left
Select the number you want to forward
Go to your Call flow
After “If call is missed” add a “Forward call” step
Click “Pick a phone number” and add your Upfirst number
To forward calls outside of business hours:
Login to your OpenPhone account
Click Settings on the left
Select the number you want to forward
Go to your Call flow
Add a "Business hours" step
After the "After hours" step add a “Forward call” step
Click “Pick a phone number” and add your Upfirst number

Forward calls when you're busy
Sign in to the Zoom web portal
In the left menu, click Phone
Click the Settings tab
Scroll to When I’m busy on another call
In the dropdown, choose Forward to external number
Enter your Upfirst number
Toggle Require to press 1 before connecting the call → OFF
Check the box and click Acknowledge
Click Save
Forward calls when you don't answer
Sign in to the Zoom web portal
In the left menu, click Phone
Click the Settings tab
Scroll to When a call is not answered
In the dropdown, choose Forward to external number
Enter your Upfirst number
Toggle Require to press 1 before connecting the call → OFF
Check the box and click Acknowledge
Click Save
Set your ring time (optional)
Under When a call is not answered, adjust Max Wait Time.
This controls how long Zoom rings you before forwarding to Upfirst.
Most Upfirst users set this to 15–20 seconds (around 3–4 rings).
Testing your setup
After setting up conditional call forwarding:
Use another phone to call your business number
Don't answer the call
Your Upfirst virtual receptionist should answer after a few rings
Troubleshooting
If calls are still going to voicemail, double-check that live voicemail is disabled
If calls aren't forwarding, try disabling and re-enabling conditional call forwarding
Make sure you've entered your Upfirst number correctly
Contact your carrier if you're still having issues - some plans may need call forwarding enabled
