Overview

There are two ways your packages may be insured through Upright Lister:

  1. ShipSurance Insurance: Packages with a declared value greater than $100 can be insured through integrations with Shipsurance, depending on where you are shipping from. If you go with this option, you will be charged for the insurance

  2. Default Carrier Insurance: USPS Priority Mail, UPS, FedEx, Canada Post Priority, Xpresspost, and Expedited Parcel all include insurance for items valued up to $100 at no additional cost

By default, shipping insurance will apply automatically to all orders over $100 USD based on your insurance threshold setting. Orders valued at or under $100 will have insurance directly via the carrier (FedEx, UPS, USPS Priority Mail).

This guide explains how to add or remove insurance to orders. You cannot insure items for higher than $100 through carrier insurance.

Insurance Options

Depending on order value and warehouse location, you have two options for package insurance. The following sections provide a brief overview of each option.

Default Carrier Insurance

  • USPS Priority or Express Mail, UPS, FedEx, and Canada Post all include free insurance for packages where the combined value of items is up to $100 at no additional cost

  • USPS First Class and Parcel Post do not include free insurance

  • File claims directly with the carrier only if the declared value is less than $100

US-Based Upright Lister Clients: Shipsurance

  • Shipments must originate from the United States of America to be eligible for Shipsurance package insurance

  • Shipsurance will insure your shipment for 0.75% of the declared value, with a $0.75 minimum

  • Shipsurance requires a signature for any shipment that includes jewelry, laptops, or cellphones worth over $1,000

  • Packages shipped through Lister's Shipsurance integration can be insured for up to $15,000 for most services levels and up to $1,000 for packages shipped via USPS First Class International Mail

  • Unlike most carrier-direct insurance, Shipsurance will cover all jewelry items valued up to $15,000

  • Click here to read Shipsurance’s Terms of Service

Non-US based Upright Lister Clients: EasyPost Insurance

  • EasyPost will insure your shipment at a cost of 0.8% of the declared value, with a $1 minimum

  • Packages shipped through Lister's EasyPost integration can be insured for up to $15,000

  • Exclusively for Upright Lister users, EasyPost will cover all jewelry items valued up to $15,000

    • NOTE: Insuring packages valued between $5,001 - $15,000 is exclusively available through Lister's EasyPost Integration

How to Add or Remove Insurance on an Order

Based on the default insurance threshold setting in Admin>Shipping, any order with a combined item value over $100 USD will automatically add Shipsurance insurance (If you’re based in the US) or EasyPost (if you’re based outside of the US).

Note: Orders in non-USD currency must be manually converted to USD. Click here for more details.

How to Add Insurance

If you want to add insurance to an order valued at less than $100 (for example, if the package is shipping via USPS First Class), you can manually add insurance by following the steps below:

  1. Click the shield icon next to “Declared Value” to add Shipsurance or EasyPost insurance based on your location

  2. Once the insurance has been added, details will populate to the top of the “Rates” column. From here, purchase your shipping label as normal

How to Remove Insurance

Although not recommended, you can manually remove insurance on a package by following the steps below:

  1. Click the shield icon next to “Declared Value” to remove Shipsurance insurance

  2. The order subtotal will be removed from the Declared Value field. From here, purchase your shipping label as normal
