Overview

Price Prediction is an optional feature within Lister that compares the keywords, title, product category, and item condition of a new listing to similar products sold via Lister and shows related items and average selling prices. This historical data can be used to help determine if a listing should be posted as a Buy it Now item or Auction style listing, with an estimated selling price range.

Price Prediction also shares and receives anonymized data of sold prices from your organization’s use of Upright Lister with other Lister clients who have also opted into the feature.

This guide walks through how to activate Price Prediction, how it works, and how to use it in your listing workflow.

Table of Contents

How to Activate Price Prediction in Lister

  1. Click the gear icon in the top right navigation menu of Lister to go to the admin settings pages

  2. Click “Products” in the left navigation menu

  3. Click on the button under the Price Prediction section to toggle on and join the beta feature to leverage historical listing data to predict accurate prices for new listings. By opting in, you confirm you are authorized to add this functionality on behalf of your organization

  4. Click “Save” at the bottom of the page

How Price Prediction Works

During the listing step, Price Prediction checks your listing title keywords and category, compares them to previously sold listings, and then shows you similar items based on your selected listing type (auction or buy it now), along with a range of prices those items have sold for.

In addition, historical listings include anonymized aggregate listing data of similar keywords and prices for sold items across other Lister clients.

Opening the Historical Listings view shows the following information:

  1. Average Price: Shows the average selling price for matching listings

    • Note: If the listing type is set to an auction format, you’ll also see the average starting bid price. If the listing is set to a fixed price format, you'll instead see the average purchase price

  2. Matching Listings: Listings you’ve previously sold via your Lister account

  3. Aggregate Listings: Anonymized title keywords, condition, and pricing data across the Lister client base of users who also use Price Prediction

💡 Operational Tip: Aggreagate listings show details based on similar items sold by other Upright Lister users who've also activated Price Prediction.

How to Use Price Prediction While Listing

Once you’ve joined the Price Prediction beta by following the steps above, a new section will be added to the listing form to show historical prices based on the marketplace listing category and title.

  1. Begin listing as normal: Select a category and listing strategy, and complete the builder template (if applicable)

Start listing as normal. Price Prediction will show on the next page
  2. If a Price Prediction match is found, a notification will show under the listing title

The listing title will show if a matching result is found
  3. A price range for similar sold items will show in the Channels section of the listing form

  4. Click “See Matching Historical Listings to review the listing photos and titles of related items, along with price ranges for those items

  5. Review historical listings to see similar sold item price range and their average starting price (if an auction-style listing)

  6. Compare Matching Listings to view similar items you have previously sold

  7. Review Aggregate Listings to compare keywords, sold prices, listing formats, and conditions of similar items sold by other Price Prediction users

💡Operational Tip: The price range shown in the Historical Prices popup is based on your selected listing type (Buy It Now/Fixed Price or Auction). If you are listing an item as an auction, Price Prediction will show you an average starting bid. If you are listing as a fixed price, the average starting bid will not be shown.
