Can I still do yoga while doing the FAI Fix?
Updated over a year ago

Yoga and FAI is a complex topic. There is no "one-size-fits-all" prescription for exercises or poses, but these videos will give you some good perspective on yoga.

Learn how to strengthen and stabilize your hips if they tend to be "hyper-mobile"

Also, this blog post, written by someone totally unrelated to us, gives you a helpful perspective for our approach for yoga practitioners who are very flexible already:

When Shane first start doing yoga, pigeon pose hurt (and was not even possible at first.) A physical therapist knowing he had FAI might have said "never do pigeon pose...it's dangerous!" This is an example of the Physically Feeble Fallacy.

Basically, always listen to your own body as the ultimate authority instead of "experts". We believe you can do almost anything as long as its the appropriate LEVEL, and you are doing it truly MINDFULLY (not lying to yourself if it's causing you bad pain as you do it.)

The best advice that we can give is:

1. During yoga, avoid any "bad pain" (pain accompanied by jamming sensations or pain that lingers and reduces your range of motion even after you're done).

2. Err on the side of gentle stretching when in doubt

3. Use tissue work to unlock tight poses / areas until the stretch starts to feel more normal

4. Use contractions to strengthen stiff muscles if they don't respond to stretching and tissue work

5. If it feels like your yoga practice is making you worse, stop. Focus on the FAI Fix and return to your yoga practice when you feel ready. Be mindful of how each exercise affects you and make adjustments to your practice as necessary.

Let your own experience be your guide. Nothing is black or white...it's all about what you can handle TODAY.
