We've had several soccer players (including professionals) who've done the program. Shane is also a soccer player.
What happens in soccer players (and other athletes) is playing years and years of soccer tightens up certain muscle / groups (inner groin / adductors / quad attachment points). This stiffness and tightness results in poor hip joint mechanics (i.e impingement).
These are the areas you should be working on with tissue work:
- Medial quad attachment points (near the hip)
- Adductor attachment points (high up in the groin using lacrosse balls, kettlebells, or the Hip Stick)
-The other hip musculature (so you stay balanced in tissue quality, ROM and strength.)
Also don't forget to do the supporting stretching and re-activation work.
Whether you stop playing soccer while working on The FAI Fix is up to you. It's often advisable to at least limit your activity (if possible) to focus on recovery / mobility / restoring balance to your hips. But of course it's up to you.
