Consumables

Automatically track and manage the quantities of the products you are using in performing your services and apply their costs to each job to help determine a gross margin.

Two types of inventory management:

  1. Retail Products

    1. products you would sell to your customers

    2. hats, t-shirts, etc.

  2. Consumables**

    1. things you use in performing your services

    2. towels, polish, top coat, etc.

How to set up your consumables:

  1. Go to Products/Services in the side menu

  2. Click into a service

  3. Click "Consumables" across the top and click 'edit'

  4. The service will be separated into the "Price Points" you have listed (coupe, sedan, SUV, etc.)

  5. List out all the products you use to complete this service for the first price point

  6. List out the quantity that will be used (this will automatically reduce your inventory for this product by the amount listed)

  7. This will automatically pull in the unit cost that you listed on your Products/Services page

  8. This will automatically pull in the total cost which will aid in determining your profit margin for this service

IMPORTANT:

  • Once you build your consumables out for one price point, you can use the "Copy" button to copy these consumables into other price points within this service, making minor tweaks in amounts ('Qty') of the product that will be used by clicking the 'edit' button

Tax-only consumables:

  • some states require you to collect sales tax on just the materials portion of a service and not the labor

  • if your state requires this, you now have a preference for it

  • go to Products/Services

  • click into a service

  • click 'edit' and "Additional Options"

  • scroll down to "Tax only Consumables" toggle

  • if turned "on" it will use the information within the "Consumables" tab within the service to just calculate tax on the total of the materials rather than the total on the entire service, if your prices are inclusive of labor

IMPORTANT:

  • if you are in a state that only requires certain consumables to be taxed, you can go into "Consumables," click 'edit' and change the taxability of each product with the individual toggle provided just to the right of the product
