Uscreen automatically sends emails to your members based on events such as sign-ups, purchases, failed payments, and subscription changes. You can customize these emails to match your brand's tone and messaging, and use variables to personalize them.
This article covers:
How to edit, test, enable or disable, and restore email templates
The variables available in each email template
The variables available in Email Broadcasts and Automations
ℹ️ INFO: Email templates are the automatic emails Uscreen sends for events on your store. To send one-off or automated marketing emails, see Email Broadcasts and Automations.
Edit an Email Template
Navigate to Settings > Email Templates
Find and click the title of the email template you want to customize
Make the edits that you require
Click Save to apply the changes
The editor lets you:
Add bold, italic, or underlined text to emphasize key details
Insert images for a more visual experience
Use bullet or numbered lists to organize information
Include hyperlinks to direct users to important pages
Customize text colors to match your brand
Choose from various font options
📝 NOTE: Many templates rely on variables for key details, such as order totals or member names. Removing a variable can make the email ineffective. If you're unsure, send yourself a test email before saving your changes.

Email Variables
Variables automatically insert member, store, and order details into an email. For example, {{user.name}} inserts the member's full name.
⚠️ WARNING: Do not remove the curly brackets {{ }} or add spaces inside a variable. Either one can stop it from working.
Each template supports its own set of variables. To see the variables available in a template, click the { } icon in the email body editor. The tables below list every variable and the templates that support it.

Variable | Description | Available in |

ℹ️ INFO: {{referral_url}} is available in Email Broadcasts and Automations only. It requires the Refer a Friend program to be active and renders as empty otherwise. Use it in the email body, buttons, or links. Avoid placing it in subject lines or preview text, as a raw URL is unlikely to improve open rates.

Content Variables
Variable | Description | Available in |
| Title of the released video | New Video Notification |
| Link to the released video | New Video Notification |
| Video thumbnail image. Inserted as an image, not text | New Video Notification |
📝 NOTE: Content image variables work only in templates that support them, such as New Video Notification. When you insert one, it renders as an actual image instead of text, and you can use it alongside text variables in the same template.
Variables in Email Broadcasts & Automations
You can personalize Email Broadcasts and Automation emails with variables in the Text Block. Broadcasts and Automations support the same seven variables, which are a smaller set than the one email templates use.
💡 TIP: In Email Broadcasts, you can also insert a personalized coupon code that delivers a unique discount code to each recipient. Click into the Text Block, open the Format menu (right-click or highlight text), select Coupons, and choose a coupon from the scrollable dropdown. The coupon variable is inserted at your cursor position.
Variable | Description |
| Full name of the recipient |
| First name only |
| Last name only |
| Email address of the recipient |
| The recipient's unique personal referral link |
| A pre-authenticated link to your checkout. When the recipient clicks it, they are signed in automatically and taken to the plan picker or a specific plan's checkout page, with no separate login |
| Your store's name |
ℹ️ INFO: Use {{user.authenticated_checkout_url}} in the email body, buttons, or links to give subscribers an easy path back to checkout. Avoid placing it in subject lines or preview text, as a raw URL is unlikely to improve open rates.
Each link is unique to one recipient's account, so it is safe to use in Broadcasts and Automations. Don't share these links publicly or forward them.
Add a variable to a Text Block exactly as shown, including the curly brackets and with no spaces.
ℹ️ INFO: Order, subscription, and other template variables, such as {{order.amount}} or {{next_order.date}}, are not available in Broadcasts and Automations. In the same way, {{user.referral_url}} and {{user.authenticated_checkout_url}} are available only in Broadcasts and Automations, not in email templates.
Test Your Email Templates
Before you finalize your changes, send yourself a test email to check how the template looks and works.
Navigate to Settings > Email Templates
Select and edit the template you want to test
Click the ellipsis (⋯) beside Save
Select Send Test Email
The test email is sent to the email address associated with your account
📝 NOTE: Test emails leave out details that need real member data. For example, {{next_order.date}} may show placeholder text instead of an actual date.
Add Images to Email Templates
Navigate to Settings > Email Templates
Select and edit the template
Click the area where you want to insert the image
Click the image icon in the editor
Select the image file from your computer
Click Save
💡 TIP: For best results, use properly sized and optimized images to prevent loading issues in emails.
💡 TIP: The New Video Notification template supports {{content.horizontal_image.big}}, which inserts the video thumbnail automatically, with no manual upload. Check the { } icon in the editor to see which image variables a template supports.
Enable or Disable Email Templates
Navigate to Settings > Email Templates
Select and edit the template
Use the toggle under Status to turn the email on or off
Click Save to confirm
⚠️ WARNING: We strongly advise not disabling critical email templates, especially those for subscription renewals and charges, failed payments, or paused memberships.
Why?
Many countries have laws requiring that certain transactional emails be sent
Disabling these could put you at risk of non-compliance with consumer protection regulations
Skipping renewal notifications may lead to unexpected charges for your members, increasing the risk of chargebacks
A high chargeback rate can harm your credibility with payment processors and may result in them terminating your account
Restoring Original Email Templates
To reset a template to its default text:
Navigate to Settings > Email Templates
Select and edit the template
Click the ellipsis (⋯) beside Save
Select Restore Original
Click Save to apply the change
Email Deliverability Tips
Balance text and images. Emails with lots of images and little text can look suspicious to spam filters.
Use clear subject lines. Avoid deceptive tactics like "Re:" or "Fwd:" unless the email is genuinely a reply or forward.
Keep a conversational tone that is professional rather than overly sales-driven.
Segment your audience so each email fits its recipients, such as active subscribers or one-time buyers.

What is the authenticated checkout link, and is it safe to include in broadcast emails?
The {{user.authenticated_checkout_url}} variable creates a unique, pre-authenticated link for each recipient, so they land in your checkout already signed in.
