Locate Software Changes - Multi Dig Site Mapping

Locate request software updates coming on February 4, 2026 introduce a new feature called multi dig site mapping. Multi dig site mapping enhances 'virtual white lining’, which helps facility owners and locators understand the scope of your work area and the impact your work will have on their facilities. This can facilitate locate responses and reduce requests for additional site details / information.

Tickets will continue to follow the minimum / maximum allowable size for each ticket type. Project tickets, Large Project tickets, and Planning & Design tickets can include up to 10 individual dig locations within that ticket type’s allowable size.

To submit a locate request with multiple dig locations, users draw each individual location on the system map - indicated in red. Each individual work location must be at least 10 square metres.

Start by drawing the first dig location. This location is tagged as #1 and the size of the drawn area is listed beside the map. Next, draw the second dig location. This location is tagged as #2 and the size of the drawn area is added beside the map. Continue until all locations (up to 10) are indicated on the map.

A blue area will display on the map around the dig locations. This blue area represents the Total Area covered by all dig locations. The Total Area must adhere to the size restrictions for that ticket type (shown in the chart above).

In the above example, all four dig locations cover a Total Area of 6,259 square metres, which falls within the parameters of a Project ticket.

Note: The blue area on the map is a reference tool, used when submitting a locate request. It is not transmitted on the outbound ticket.

The outbound ticket will include multiple dig locations on the map and the GML file transmitted to facility owners and locators will include multiple shapes.
