How to Check What a Guest is Paying on Airbnb

Updated over 5 months ago

This SOP explains how to quickly view the total amount a guest is paying for their stay on Airbnb, especially useful when a guest requests a discount, price adjustment, or clarification of charges. It also includes a link to a visual walkthrough.

Why This Matters

Knowing the guest’s total cost (nightly rate, cleaning fee, Airbnb guest service fee, and taxes) helps ensure:

  • Pricing and discounts remain profitable

  • Transparent communication with guests

  • Consistency with Airbnb’s pricing structure and policies

  • Informed decision-making when negotiating or approving discount requests

Understanding the total amount allows Vacarya to protect margins while still providing fair and competitive pricing.

What You Need

  • Access to the Airbnb host account

  • Guest inquiry or reservation details available

  • Logged into your Airbnb dashboard

Steps

  1. Log in to Airbnb:
Access the Airbnb host dashboard using your login credentials.

  2. Go to the Reservation or Inquiry:
Locate the guest's inquiry or reservation from your Inbox or Calendar.

  3. Click "Show Price Breakdown":
Inside the guest’s booking request or inquiry, click to expand the price breakdown. Select “Show price breakdown” (Airbnb may label this as “Details”, “Breakdown”, or “View pricing” depending on the interface).

  4. Review Total Guest Payment:
You’ll see what the guest is paying in total, including nightly rate, cleaning fee, Airbnb fees, and taxes.

Note: Airbnb does not show hosts the exact breakdown of Airbnb’s guest service fee, but the total amount paid by the guest is always visible.

  5. Determine Whether a Discount Makes Sense:
Use the total cost to inform your pricing decision:

    • Consider seasonal demand, length of stay, gaps between bookings, and fairness to the guest

    • Ensure any discount maintains profitability for the owner

    • Apply discounts through Airbnb’s “Send special offer” or “Edit price” tools
