Answer
Small day-to-day variance is normal. A large or consistent mismatch usually has one of these causes:
Calibration needed — the most common cause. The sensor may need re-tuning, especially after months in service.
Mounting shifted — if the sensor angle or height changed (cleaning, renovation, knocked), accuracy drops.
Staff/strollers counted — without staff exclusion, employees and prams inflate the count.
Wide entrance / coverage gap — very wide doors may need more than one sensor for full coverage.
Live Inside / Live Occupancy looks wrong? This widget is entries minus exits, so a single missed IN or OUT accumulates over the day. If it drifts (e.g. shows people inside after closing), it usually needs an occupancy reset or one direction is miscounting — tell me the site and I'll flag it.
Gender or age numbers look wrong / not working? Demographics depend on the sensor model (e.g. Milesight VS121/VS125, Xovis with the attributes licence). If gender is blank, flat, or clearly off, the feature may not be licensed on that sensor or needs re-calibration — share the site and sensor and I'll check the licence and accuracy.
Tell me the site and roughly how far off the count is (e.g. "20% too high"), and I'll arrange a calibration review with the technical team.
