How to Create an RFE Response Draft

Learn how to create an RFE Response Draft in Visalaw, from uploading your documents to reviewing the final draft.

1.Start a New RFE Response Draft

  • Go to the Drafts feature

  • Click + New Draft

  • Enter a unique name for the Draft, such as the case or matter name

  • Select RFE Response, then select the underlying process type for the case

    Optional: Choose whether to share the draft with others

  • Select the exhibit table format (for example, Letters)

  • Click Next

2. File Upload: Upload the RFE notice and Supporting Documents

  • Upload the scanned copy of the RFE notice. Wait for the system to process the document; this usually takes less than a minute

  • Upload all relevant supporting documents needed for the initial draft

  • You can either:

    • Click Upload

    • Drag and drop files into the upload area, or

    • Use the integration

    Note: The upload process may take a couple of minutes

  • Click Next when all files are uploaded

3. Analysis: Review the Identified RFE requests/issues

  • The system will display the RFE requests/issues or issues identified in the RFE

  • Review the list carefully and toggle off any RFE requests or issues that do not require a response. In this example, all listed requests and issues require a response

  • Click Next to continue

4. Exhibit List: Select and Rename Exhibits

  • Choose which uploaded documents should be included as exhibits

    Optional: Select Rename using AI or Organize using AI to automatically rename or organize your documents. If selected, wait a few moments for the process to finish

  • Confirm the updated document names, then click Next

5. Finalize Draft: Add Optional Drafting Details

  • Enter any additional information that may help draft the response. This step is optional

  • Add the name of the person who will sign the letter, such as:

    • An attorney, or

    • The company signatory

  • Click Next

6. Set Citation and Index Preferences

  • Choose your citation preference

  • In the example, No Citation is selected

  • Select an index option

  • Name the index (for example, Index)

  • Click Next

7. Submit the Draft for Generation

  • Review the final setup screen

    Note: Process types labeled Beta may be free during the beta period, depending on your plan. If you have questions about your plan or pricing, please contact support@visalaw.ai

  • Click Next to submit the draft

  • You will be returned to the dashboard while the draft is generated

8. Wait for Draft Completion

  • The draft status will change from Generating Draft to Draft Complete

  • This usually takes 5–10 minutes

    Note: You do not need to keep the tab open. You can leave the page and return later

9. Review and Edit the Draft

  • Once the draft is ready, open it from the dashboard

  • Use View Draft for a quick preview

  • Use Edit Draft to make manual changes

  • You can:

    • Remove text

    • Add text

    • Revise sections as needed

10. Use AI Redraft for Targeted Improvements

  • Highlight the section you want to improve

  • Click AI Redraft

  • Enter an instruction, such as making the text more concise

  • Click Redraft Text

  • Review the suggested rewrite

  • If you want more changes, go back and add additional instructions

  • If the revision looks good, click Apply Changes to update the document

11. Download the Final RFE Response Packet

  • Click Bundle Petition Packet at the bottom of the screen

  • The system will generate a PDF bundle containing:

    • The draft letter

    • The index

    • The exhibit list

    • The relevant supporting documents

  • Download the completed packet for use in the RFE response
