Short answer:
No — we don’t recommend using any CGM in a sauna or steam room.

High heat and humidity can affect both Sibionics GS3 and FreeStyle Libre sensors, potentially causing inaccurate readings, sensor damage, or the sensor to fall off.

Why saunas aren’t recommended for CGMs

Regardless of brand, CGM sensors are designed to work within normal ambient temperature ranges. Saunas typically expose the sensor to extreme heat and moisture, which can cause issues such as:

  • Reduced accuracy
High temperatures can interfere with how the sensor measures glucose, making readings unreliable.

  • Adhesive failure
Heat and heavy sweating can weaken the adhesive, causing the sensor to loosen or fall off.

  • Permanent sensor damage
Prolonged exposure to extreme heat may stop the sensor from working altogether.

Temperature considerations

  • Sibionics GS3 is designed to operate in normal everyday temperature conditions (approximately 5°C to 30°C).

  • FreeStyle Libre 2 / 2 Plus sensors are rated for temperatures up to around 45°C.

Saunas and steam rooms commonly reach 70°C to 100°C, which is well outside the safe operating range for any CGM.

What if I still choose to use a sauna?

If a sensor is exposed to extreme heat and:

  • Falls off

  • Stops working

  • Produces unreliable readings

we’re unfortunately unable to offer a free replacement, as this would be considered environmental damage.

In summary

  • Saunas and steam rooms are not recommended for any CGM

  • Heat can affect accuracy, adhesion, and sensor lifespan

  • Sensor issues caused by sauna use aren’t eligible for free replacement
