  • Announcement is any ad that announces personnel changes, deaths, obituaries or if the company is changing its name.

  • Comb Copy (Combination copy) implies multiple items featured in the same ad. This is where 3 or more products are in an ad that all fall within the same industry but would fall in different categories under that Industry.

  • Combo is an ad that features 2 Products that have two distinct product names that are indicated in the ad.

  • Corporate Promotion is devoted to selling the image, reputation, or name of a company, division, or strategic business unit by extending beyond the direct sale of a specific product or service.

  • DR stands for Direct Response. Include information on how to order products or it focuses on where to call or write for a catalogue even if the store addresses are listed. It can also focus on how to order a product or service, even if store addresses are listed.

  • General Promotion (and Multi-category) is used when three or more products are advertised that would have individually been categorized within the category group that the "General Promotion & Multi-Category" represents. It is also used for nonspecific general promotion ads.

  • House Brand as a product descriptor is not used by our regular collection groups. It was created for other purposes, but still appears in the applications.

  • Legal Messages is any ad indicating redemption notices, legal notices, bankruptcy notices, dividend notices, liquidity notices, conversion notices, and annual notices, invitations to bid or distribution of shares.

  • Mobile App pertains to all products that refer to themselves as applications or “apps” for a mobile device.

  • NEC is an acronym for "Not Elsewhere Classified". It is akin to an "All Other" category. Because our classifications are very specifically defined, when a product or service doesn't fit into a particular category, we put it in the NEC categories.

  • Online is a descriptor used when the focus of the ad is on a product, service, or information that is received via the Internet. The advertisement is driving you to go to an online site that offers a service, or the advertisement is an online-only product (e.g. Google.com – it’s not software that I purchase and run, it’s a search engine that I can only access online).

  • Sponsored Event is an event sponsored by the product or company.

  • Vignette is a short literary sketch sponsored and bundled with a commercial. It may be a trivia question, cooking tip, public-interest item or program-material-related sketch but generally not directly related to the product. Vignettes can air alone or bundled with a commercial.
