Volley gives you a DUPR rating from about 10 minutes of play on the trainer — no partner and no scheduled match needed. First you play a short two-part assessment; then, whenever you're ready, you link your DUPR account and submit your score. You don't need a DUPR account to play, so most players just play first and link after.

Section 1 — Play the on-court assessment
Step 1 — Start the assessment
On the home screen, tap Don't have a DUPR? Get Rated. You'll land on the overview showing the two parts you'll play. Tap the drop-downs ("How you're rated" and "Already have a DUPR rating?") for details, then tap Let's go.
Step 2 — Choose your level
Pick the option that best describes you — this sets the difficulty and the highest rating the assessment can produce. The assessment is built for players in roughly the 2.0–4.0 range:
Beginner — max rating 3.5
Intermediate — max rating 4.25
Not sure? Take the easier assessment — you can always retake it at a higher level and submit the higher score to DUPR.
Step 3 — Set up the trainer
Position the trainer using the on-screen diagram:
Roll it to the far baseline — facing the net.
Center the front wheels on the line — both front wheels on the baseline, straddling the center mark.
Square it to the net — face the trainer straight down the middle so shots track true.
Choose which side you'll stand on — Even or Odd — and tap I'm set up.
Step 4 — Part 1 · Point Play
6 rounds, 14 balls each. Play every ball like a real point. You're aiming at two targets: drive to the power dot, drop & dink to the soft dot.
Start at the baseline — drive the deep balls to the power target.
Move in when the screen says so — a short ball comes; step up to the kitchen line.
Finish soft at the kitchen — dinks and volleys to the soft target at the T.
Tap I'm ready to continue.
Step 5 — Part 2 · Serves
5 serves. The trainer floats you a slow, high ball — catch it, then serve it back. Serve crosscourt and land it deep; placement and pace both count.
Stand behind the line — the side you chose, behind the baseline.
Catch the toss, then set up.
Serve to the deep target — crosscourt into the far box, deep and middle.
About 10 seconds between serves, and no penalty for a miss. Tap I'm ready.
Step 6 — Clear the court, then press play
After you play: Volley scores your play from the video. You'll get a push notification and an email when your results are ready to review — then head to Section 2 to link DUPR and submit.
Section 2 — Link your DUPR account & submit your rating
You can link your DUPR account any time — before or after you play. Most players play first, then link when their results are ready. If you don't have a DUPR account yet, you'll create one here; this is what turns your assessment into an official rating.
Step 1 — Open Connect DUPR
From the home screen, tap Connect DUPR in the status bar near the top, then tap Connect account.
Step 2 — Sign in, sign up, or claim your account
Already have DUPR? Tap Sign In.
New to DUPR? Tap Sign Up to create your account — this is what lets your assessment become your first official rating.
Played in a tournament but never set up an account? Use Claim Your Account.
Step 3 — Authorize Volley to access your DUPR data
After you sign in, DUPR asks you to authorize Volley. The required fields — DUPR ID, partial name, ratings, and birth year — are what let Volley read and update your DUPR profile. A few fields (full name, gender, location) are optional. Tap Authorize to continue. You can change or revoke this any time from your DUPR profile settings.
Step 4 — Review your results & submit to DUPR
When your results are ready, open your results to pick the one you want to make official. Each attempt is tagged (your top score is marked Best), and you can retake the assessment as many times as you like — but you can only submit one result, and submitting is final. So choose your best before you submit.
Open a result to Review it. You'll see your assessment rating. Tap Submit to DUPR when you're ready, or Not now to keep reviewing.
Confirm on the pop-up. This sends the rating to DUPR and can't be undone — you won't be able to submit an updated score later.
That's it. Your score is submitted and will appear as an informational rating on your DUPR profile. Tap Done.
Heads up: If you already have an official DUPR rating, you can still take the assessment — but the result won't be submitted or change your rating. It's a private benchmark for your game.
