Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) makes your Volunteero accounts safer. It adds a second step when logging in to verify it is you.
You can set up 2FA in two ways
Some organisations make 2FA required on Volunteero, while others leave it up to you.
Although SMS is more convenient, codes are sent over insecure SMS messages which can potentially be intercepted. Authenticator Apps generates codes on your device which is more secure.
Option 1: Using an Authenticator App
Download an authenticator app: We recommend Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator, but you can use other alternatives as well.

2. Log into or set up an account on the authenticator app
3. Go to the Volunteero App and login using your email address and password.
If you don't know your password, you can find it in the welcome email or please reset your password, by clicking 'Forgot Password?'.
4. Choose your 2FA method and select 'Authenticator App'
5. If you are using Volunteero on your mobile device you will need to copy the secret authentication code into your authenticator app or alternatively, you can click on add to app directly, this will open your authenticator app automatically and pre-fill the code for you.
6. If you are using Volunteero on your desktop please scan the QR code on your laptop with your phone in the authenticator app now
7. Submit, and make sure to complete all steps and click add. Volunteero is now added to your authenticator app. A new code is generated in here on a regular basis.
8. Go back to the Volunteero app and enter the code provided to you at that time, see example below. And make sure to click confirm. You are all set up now.
Please never share these codes with anyone, the screenshot below is for demonstration purposes only.

9. Every time you are prompted to log in from now on you need to login with your email and password and you need to provide an authentication code from the authenticator app you set up.
Option 2: Using Your Phone Number
Although SMS is more convenient, codes are sent over insecure SMS messages which can potentially be intercepted. Authenticator Apps generates codes on your device which is more secure.
Go to the Volunteero app and login using your email address and password.If you don't know your password, you can find it in the welcome email or please reset your password, by clicking 'Forgot Password?'.
Choose your 2FA method and select 'Phone number authentication'
3. Confirm you want to proceed using SMS authentication, although it is less reliable and secure.
4. Type in your phone number and double check you are using the right area code (+44 for the UK, +1 for the US)
5. You will receive a text message now from CloudOTP on the number you have provided, please type this number into Volunteero and click confirm.
6. 2FA has now been added to your account. Please bear in mind that each time you log in, you will need to enter your email address and password. You will then receive a text message with a verification code, which you must enter into Volunteero to complete the login process.
