How to create a group chat
Firstly, open the Volunteero chat window. The Volunteero chat window is opened by pressing the icon on the top right of the management dashboard (as shown below)
Click the 'search for people and chats' bar and select create a group chat.
You'll then be presented with a number of options to configure your group chat.
Chat history shown to new chat members"
Would you like new members of this chat to be able to see all previous messages or just the messages since they were added? Be cautious when selecting yes to this option, ensure you know what the chat history contains.
Chat available to all volunteers
This means that all volunteers on your dashboard with app access will be invited to the chat. This is perhaps fine for things like newsfeeds or announcements. You might want to change the chat role to 'view only' for these kind of chats. See further on how to do this.
Select no for 'chat available to all volunteers' if the chat should be restricted to specific individuals or groups.
Which volunteer groups can join this chat?
Here is where you select the groups that should be part of this group chat. When new volunteers are added to Volunteero and to certain groups, they will automatically be added to the chats that group is part of. You can also select no group in cases where you want to just add individuals.
Default volunteer role
Every member of a chat group has a role, this option dictates what role volunteers will have as a standard. For more information on chat roles and permissions, see our full article here.
Once you have selected all the relevant options and added the relevant groups you can press "Create chat" You can now begin sending messages on the chat.
