Chat roles and permissions are distinct and separate from the normal roles and permissions. Furthermore, each chat group has its own set of roles and permissions. This is to ensure the most amount of flexibility. Here we cover how to set them up and edit them.

Firstly, open the Volunteero chat window. The Volunteero chat window is opened by pressing the icon on the top right of the management dashboard (as shown below)

Now open the chat you wish to set or edit the roles and permissions for.

Either press on the chat picture or press the three dots in the top right to open the chat settings.

Open "view roles and permissions"

Here you can see the roles you have set up as standard there will be two roles, admin and default.

You can see the relevant permissions for each role. You can edit the permissions by selecting or deselecting permissions.

We would recommend that you keep the default role and that volunteers are given this role by default. You can set up a new role by pressing the "new role" option. This can be used for senior volunteers or team leaders for example but you want to ensure that volunteers by default receive the lowest level of permission.

Remember, changing the roles will only affect that particular chat. If you wish to make changes to other chats then you must follow the same process but for the other chat.

Assigning chat roles

Once you have the roles and permissions set up as you would like. Now you can assign the relevant roles to members of the chat. To do so, open the group chat you wish to edit member permissions for.

Press "Manage chat members"

Find the relevant volunteer and then press the drop-down icon next to their role. Select the role you wish to give them and the changes will be made.
