Missions on Volunteero are there to help you organise your volunteering activities.

However, there are so many different ways to utilise missions, from onboarding volunteers to engaging them in various activities beyond the traditional volunteering tasks. This is a great way to engage more volunteers with different interests or streamline your onboarding. Here are some examples of the types of missions you can offer your volunteers:

Onboarding and Training Missions:

Onboarding new volunteers is a critical part of any volunteering project. Instead of relying solely on manuals or in-person training sessions, you can leverage Volunteero to create onboarding and training missions. In these missions you can include links to videos, quizzes, and interactive tutorials to help volunteers understand your mission, values, and specific processes. By completing these missions, volunteers can quickly familiarize themselves with your organisation, making them more effective and engaged from the start.

How would you do this?

  • Create a group restricting them from other missions they aren’t yet qualified for. Call this group ‘onboarding’ or ‘training’ for example.

  • Set up training missions with links to documents, training materials, policies.

  • Set up a custom report with questions about the training or have the volunteer agree with your policies through the questions.

Social Media Missions:

Social media plays a crucial role in raising awareness and promoting your organisation's activities. Create social media missions that encourage volunteers to share your posts, articles, or campaigns on their own social media profiles. This can amplify your reach and engage a wider audience by leveraging your volunteers' personal networks. Or ask your volunteers to share their volunteering experience at your organisation which you could share on social media. This could help inspire new volunteers to apply for your roles.

How would you do this?

  • Set up a mission for all volunteers or a specific group with a link to your post or campaign and ask them to share.

  • Set up a custom report asking the volunteers if they have completed it.

  • Consider offering incentives (e.g. a social media badge on their volunteero profile) for volunteers who consistently participate in these missions.

  • Create a mission where volunteers can share their experience with your organisation in a report. You could even ask them to upload a photo they took while volunteering.

Fundraising Missions:

Fundraising is a vital aspect of nonprofit organisations. Utilise your volunteer management software to create fundraising missions that enable volunteers to raise funds on behalf of your organisation. These missions can involve setting up collections, organising charity events, or reaching out to potential donors. You could even gamify the fundraising process and award the volunteer badges for reaching certain amouns of donations, building a sense of accomplishment.

How would you do this?

  • Set up a fundraising mission

  • Create a custom report where the volunteer can keep track of the donations they receive each week. Top tip: use the numerical field to capture exact amounts

  • Set up fundraising badges to award to your volunteers

Event Management Missions:

If your organisation hosts events or programs, missions can be used to manage and coordinate these activities. Create missions for event registration, logistics, and coordination tasks. Volunteers can sign up for specific roles and responsibilities, ensuring that all aspects of the event run smoothly. By breaking down event-related tasks into missions, you can streamline the organisation of large-scale events and ensure that nothing is overlooked. Our shift feature works so well for events. Here’s an article on how to create shifts. Your volunteers can claim the shifts for your event according to their own interests and availability.

How would you do this?

  • Set up a mission for your event, enable shifts and set up up shifts for each task (the sign in, stewarding, the clean up etc.)

  • Create custom reports so volunteers can report back about how it went, how many people they interacted with etc.

  • This could be for a multiple day event or for just a volunteer meet up

Missions on Volunteero are versatile tools that can be used for much more than just organising volunteering activities. By leveraging missions for onboarding, social media sharing, fundraising and event management, you can maximise the impact of your volunteering program while keeping volunteers engaged and motivated.
