Express Mode™

Written by Gina

VRTO is built for real life, not perfect weeks. Express Mode™ is the feature that makes that principle practical — it lets you shorten or modify a session in real time, without losing your streak, your history, or your momentum.

When to use it

Any time a session feels like too much for the time or energy you have today.

That might be because:

  • You're short on time — you have 25 minutes instead of 55

  • You're low on energy — you slept badly or had a demanding day

  • You're travelling or in a different environment with different equipment

The alternative to Express is either forcing through a full session when you're not resourced for it, or skipping. Express is better than both.

How to use it

In planning mode click Options -> enable Express Mode
In the Workout player tap the cog icon in the top right hand corner of the screen -> enable Express Mode

Once you've toggled Express Mode on you'll be given the option of which sets you'd like to Express, select a few or choose them all, the choice is yours.
You can do this at any point — before your first set or mid-session.

VRTO shortens the session by reducing volume — typically fewer sets per exercise or fewer exercises total, prioritising the most important movements in the session.

You can turn Express on at any point during the session. Everything you've already logged is preserved.

ℹ️ Express Mode™ is not a shortcut that undermines your program. It's a guardrail that protects consistency. A shortened session logged is worth significantly more for your long-term progress than a perfect session skipped.

What happens to your data

Everything is preserved. Your session is logged as completed. Your progression history for each exercise carries forward. Your training streak continues. The only thing that changes is the volume of that specific session.

Skipping builds the habit of skipping. Shortening builds the habit of consistency. That habit is the most valuable thing you're building in the first 30 days.

💡 If you find yourself using Express more than 2–3 times per week consistently, that's a signal worth listening to. It might mean your program's volume or frequency needs reviewing — your weekly check-in is the right place to raise that.
