How (& when) do I change my VRTO training program?

You can change your VRTO training program at any time, but there are specific situations where switching makes sense — and others where you’re better off adjusting your setup instead. VRTO also guides you through weekly check-ins if a change is needed.

How changing your program works

Your training program lives in the Training tab of the VRTO app.

At any point, you can switch to:

  • A different program

  • A different weekly structure (3/4/5 days)

  • A home or gym variant

  • A new best-fit recommendation based on updated goals

When you switch programs, VRTO instantly updates:

  • Your weekly training schedule

  • Your exercise selection

  • Your session structure

  • Your progression model

  • Your recommended time per workout

  • Your cardio guidance (if needed)

  • Your nutrition targets (if your goal changes) Note: These updates will not apply retroactively to sessions already completed.

Please note: if you've already started a workout for the week, these updates are scheduled to take effect at the beginning of the following week to ensure a smooth transition — you never lose past data or progress.

Nutrition & Macro Changes Apply Immediately

Any updates you make to your nutrition settings — including changes to your macro targets, meal plan approach, or macro split — take effect straight away. These changes do not follow the weekly schedule rules that apply to training programs.

This means:

  • Your new macro targets update instantly

  • Recommended meal plans refresh immediately (if you’re using them)

  • Your logging experience reflects the new settings right away

Only training program changes wait until the start of the next week if you’ve already begun a workout. Nutrition updates always apply as soon as you save them.

What changes when you switch programs

Depending on the type of change you make, VRTO will update different parts of your plan:

If you switch your program entirely:

VRTO rebuilds your:

  • Weekly structure

  • Training split

  • Session progression

  • Lifts and accessory movements

  • Time expectations

If you switch variants (3/4/5-day weeks):

VRTO adjusts:

  • Number of weekly sessions

  • Session length

  • Volume and workload

If you change your goal:

VRTO recalibrates:

  • Training focus (strength, hypertrophy, fat loss)

  • Program selection

  • Intensity and progression

  • Nutrition recommendations

If you update your training profile:

VRTO re-runs your onboarding logic and recommends a new best-fit program.

When to switch your training program

Switching programs is useful when your real life has changed — not when motivation or emotion fluctuates. Consider switching if:

1. Your goal has changed

Examples:

  • Strength ➝ Muscle gain

  • Muscle gain ➝ Fat loss

  • Fat loss ➝ Strength foundation

Changing your goal signals VRTO to build a completely new program.

2. Your weekly schedule has changed

If your available days shift — e.g., from 5 days ➝ 3 days — you may need a different weekly structure for sustainable progress.

You can switch variants quickly using the three dots in the top right hand corner of the Training tab.

3. Your training environment changed

If you moved from gym ➝ home or vice versa, switching programs or variants ensures exercise selection matches your equipment.

4. You’ve completed the full program phase

Finishing a phase is the perfect time to switch to:

  • A progression block

  • A new cycle

  • A higher-level program

  • A different style that matches your evolving capacity

5. Persistent signs your current plan isn’t working

VRTO monitors your behaviour and progress over time. Switching may be the right move if you’re experiencing:

  • Frequently missed sessions

  • Difficulty completing long workouts

  • Feeling overwhelmed by weekly volume

  • Loss of motivation or enjoyment

  • Plateaued or poor results

  • Time constraints that consistently reduce adherence

These signs indicate your current plan no longer fits your reality.

When NOT to switch your program

Sometimes switching doesn’t solve the real issue. Avoid switching if:

  • You had one bad week

  • You missed a single session

  • You’re feeling temporarily unmotivated

  • You want novelty instead of progress

  • You haven’t given the program enough time to work

Consistency — not changing programs — drives results.

How VRTO helps guide program changes

Your weekly check-in plays a huge role in helping VRTO understand:

  • Your fatigue level

  • Your recovery

  • Your consistency

  • Your performance

  • Your lifestyle stress

  • Your time availability

If your check-in shows your current setup isn’t sustainable, VRTO may suggest:

  • Switching to a shorter variant

  • Reducing weekly training days

  • Shortening session time

  • Switching programs entirely

  • Updating your training profile

These guided suggestions help you make informed decisions rather than guessing.

How to change your training program

  1. Open the Training tab

  2. Tap the Change Program option

  3. Review your recommended and alternative programs

  4. Select the program that aligns with your goal

  5. Confirm your choice and update your plan

  6. Check your training calendar to see the start date of your new program. If you'd already started a workout for the week, your new training program will begin at the start of the following week.

If switching variants only:

Tap the three dots (top right hand corner) → choose 3/4/5-day or home/gym.

If updating your profile:

Profile tab → My Training Profile → adjust → confirm → new recommendation.
