Do I require an ETA?

Find out if you need an ETA

Written by NUCO Travel

If you are a non-visa national traveling to the UK for short stays (up to six months), you need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA). It costs £20.00 and links directly to your passport.

We would always advise that you check what travel requirements are in place for the country you are travelling to, as these can change.

As of 25th September 2026, you do not need an ETA if:

  • You are a British or Irish citizen.

  • You already have a valid UK visa or immigration status.

  • You have a legal right to live, work, or study in the UK (e.g., EU Settlement Scheme status).

  • You are legally resident in Ireland and traveling from Ireland into the Common Travel Area.

  • You are transiting through a UK airport without passing through border control.

Everyone else, including babies and children, needs an ETA to board their transport to the UK. You should apply at least 3 days before your trip using the official UK ETA App or via the online GOV.UK ETA Application
